tax bill after refinancing q
we closed on our refinance last month, yesterday i got a bill from the county for our 2nd half taxes due july 1 (i guess because they assumed we paid off our mortgage, wishful thinking!), we pay for taxes through our new lender, but i would think the new mortgage company would have contacted the county about this? has this happened to anyone else that refinanced? i contacted the mortgage guy we worked with and he said to just ignore it b/c we are currently paying for taxes in escrow. i just dont want to be penalized if we leave the bill unpaid.

just forward the tax bill to the new lender. They will take care of it. I'd send it certified or overnight so you have proof that they received it.

Thanks, the bank asked me to fax the bill, which I did, but do I need to follow up with the county? I hope it doesn't make a difference that the tax bill is in my maiden name (the old loan was as well). The new loan is under my married name (and we filed for a new deed as well, which i'm not sure how long that takes).

You really don't need to follow up - the paperwork will eventually catch up.
That being said, I would send a notice to the Town. Even though it's your general (County) tax bill, in Nassau County, the tax bills area actually mailed out by the Town Tax Receiver. Depending on the Town, you might even be able to do this online.
