Tao restaurant

Has anyone been to Tao in NYC?? I was just wondering how the food is, and if it's way too overly priced. Any reviews are helpful. Thanks!

Re: Tao restaurant

Tao is one of my top 3 favorite restaurants in NYC. The food is awesome if you like that type of food - kind of pan-asian, steak dishes, sushi type foods. The place is HUGE and the atmosphere is really cool. They have a great drink menu too. I always have a terrific time there.

Downsides - the place is very loud and not cheap - if you get appetizers and a meal and drinks you can end up spending $100 per person, but the portions can also be shared by the table. I don't think it's "overly" priced for a NYC restaurant and it's definitely worth it. The bar area is very small so it gets very crowded. And you will definitely need reservations.

Re: Tao restaurant

Thanks for the info. I have heard of the place, but don't know anyone who has been there. I'm looking for a cool place to go with my DH for our anniversary. I thought that it would be different. I'm doing my research!

ITA. Loved the food. The noise level is too much. In terms of the prices, I thought it was worth it.

Re: Tao restaurant

I totally agree with the other posted in that the only drawback on Tao is the noise level. It has very good food and a great scene.

I've been there many times. You go for the atmosphere more than the food, but the food isn't bad (not THE BEST, but pretty good). It's all about the scene at Tao.

Re: Tao restaurant

I was there last week for dinner and it seemed a bit quieter than usual, but I don't know if they toned it down or it was just that particular night. It is difficult to have a conversation in my opinion.

I really enjoyed the food. It isn't cheap - I went with 2 co-workers, we had 3 appetizers, 3 entrees, a drink each and split a dessert - I believe the bill was about $250.
