yes , your allowed, but would I do it?
NEVER.
Overheating can cause brain development issues in a fetus.

I think tanning your face is different than laying in an actual tanning bed. Laying in a bed will cause your body to heat up, and potentially overheat. Your face on a sun lamp will probably not cause your entire body to overheat.

Re: tanning salonnnnnn
The last time I went tanning was when I was a few weeks pregnant and didn't know yet.
I almost passed out in the booth because I got so hot. I was only able to dstay in there for 1/2 the normal time.
Your face? Maybe WHole body? Nah

I would be leary of getting the "pregnancy mask" (aka chloasma or melasma) personally.

Re: tanning salonnnnnn
i am a little biased about this, i'll admit, because i can't understand purposely increasing one's risk of skin cancer for vanity reasons. plus, tans last only a little while, but ugly wrinkles and leathery skin last forever...jmo, of course.
but back to your actual question, i would definitely avoid any exposure that would heat your body up too much, it can be very harmful to the fetus. tanning your face is probably okay, though, since your body temp is unlikely to rise too much...
ETA: looking at elbee's post above, i totally agree, if you're gonna tan your face watch out for melasma! once you have it, it's apparently VERY hard to get rid of even when you're no longer pregnant.

Same issue with the pregnancy mask .. you risk the chance of developing it. I wouldn't do it in a million years ... not worth it!

same goes for regular sun - you don't want your body to overheat. since i've been pregnant i've gone on a beach vacation and have been at pools and lakes several times. i didn't lie directly in the sun, i spent most of my time under the umbrella and i didn't go outside during the warmest hours (12-2). when i was directly in the sun it was when i was in the (cool) water. and i slathered with SPF 30, especially on my face. melasma is a nightmare!!!!

Re: tanning salonnnnnn
There was a segment on the news yesterday about dos and don'ts for pregnancy and one of them had to do with the sun. The doctor on said that it is dangerous for the baby if your body temp gets above 101. I don't know how hot you get in the beds... but I remember doing it a few times years ago and I came out soaked so I wouldn't chance it.

Re: tanning salonnnnnn
Do the spray tan instead (though this should be the rule of thumb regardless of pregnancy).

Re: tanning salonnnnnn
I didn't go tanning, but I was in the sun a lot. Ladies, you DON"T want melasma. I got it really bad around my eyes and I looked like a raccoon. I couldn't use any creams to get rid of it during pregnancy and no amount of makeup could hide it either. The thing that $ucks is that once you get it, you can get it again with the next pregnancy. Do yourself a favor and stay out of the sun!!
