Taking out a loan after not so great credit?

We had some past issues with our mortgage BUT it all straightened out now ( VERY recently). My question is this only my name is on our mortgage but DH name on the deed of the house if we were to ask for a loan from our bank just under dh's name for home improvements would we get approved? Would my issues with our mortgage hinder this process if I am the sole borrower? We have a nice chunk of change in this bank that we want to take the loan out from. Sorry so long thanks for reading Chat Icon

I was in a similar situation. Before I got married, I walked away from an underwater home and mortgage in another state, only my name was on the mortgage. We had no problems getting a mortgage, but we put the mortgage in only his name, using only his credit. Also, we made sure all of our assets were in accounts with only his name, with the exeption of our primary checking account. We put only his name on the deed. Since his income was sufficient to cover our mortgage amount it wasn't an issue. Also we didn't even try for a mortgage at either of the two banks that held the note on my previous place, just in case!

Like I said, his name wasn't on the deed at our first place, but I can't imagine it would matter one way or the other. The deed basically says who has rights on the property, not who's liable on the debt. We avoided putting my name on the deed for our new place because I walked away from the mortgage and didn't want any assets to my name that the bank could come after to satisfy the previous mortgage.
