Taking away the bottle cold turkey
DS is 22 months and we took away his bottles 3 days ago and he hasn't drank any milk since. He isn't asking for his bottle (which kinda surprised me), but he doesn't seem to miss the milk. I've been giving him his milk in a new toy story cup that he loves to look at, but he just won't drink from it (or any other cup....I've tried them all over the past few months). How long did it take your DC to start drinking milk again if they did the same thing? And how long is it ok to go without milk? I make him a smoothie with yogurt everyday, so he is getting dairy/calcium.

Re: Taking away the bottle cold turkey
I took my twins off bottles cold turkey - and switched from formula to milk at the same time. They were already familiar with sippy cups since they got water in a sippy since about 6 months old. One twin had zero problems with the switch and continued drinking as normal. The other refused the cup and milk. Took about a week and she started just drinking a little here and there, prob less than 6 oz a day. Another 2 weeks and she was up to 3 full sippies a day.
ETA: made the switch at 12 months old. Just read your DS was 22 months. I think it may be harder at that age! Good luck!

Thanks for the response. I guess every kid is different and hopefully he will start drinking it soon.

Re: Taking away the bottle cold turkey
I'm in the same boat as you are!! My DD is 22 months but has one bottle at night (it's part of her bedtime routine ... yikes!)
I have tried for months to get her to drink milk from anything else (even the milk in what looks like juice boxes) but no luck.
My Doctor wasn't concerned if she stops drinking milk completely as long as she gets her calcium in other ways.
Do you think your DS is getting enough calcium? How many bottles a day was he drinking???

He was drinking 3 bottles a day still. But his last bottle was a dinner bottle, not a bedtime bottle so there was no routine I had to break. He's not a good eater, so I really hope that he does drink his milk again. Thankfully he drinks the smoothie that I make for him everyday, so he's getting the yogurt and fruit that way.

I took my DD's bottles away when she was 25 months old. She has not had a drop of milk to drink since then....that was 4 months ago. I just make sure she gets dairy through her foods.
