Tailor versus new clothes?
I've lost some weight - about 20lbs, and it's becoming a problem with my clothes. I bought an entire new fall wardrobe last year because I had a new, business casual, job. I don't even want to think about how much I spent on it, and yet, I tried on some of the clothes, and none of it fit. I couldn't even get away with any of it.
So what do I do? Go to a tailor and have them all refitted, or start stocking up now on a new wardrobe?

Re: Tailor versus new clothes?
I think it depends on the item
skirts are easier and cheaper to take in the pants
I would take 1 pair of pants to the tailor for a quote- and then think about that vs the cost of new pants
any time my tailor has to open the side seam it's $$$$$$$$

Yeah, I'm wondering how much it will cost. I have a bunch of fall skirts that I would hate to let go. I suppose I'll bring some in and get a quote.
I'm assuming tops are a total wash because they would cost too much $$ to take in?

it wouldn't hurt to have them look at the tops and see if they can do anything
I have never needed a top taken in- so I have no idea about that
good luck! and congrats!!!!!!!!!

Bye-bye boobies!

Re: Tailor versus new clothes?
I would do it with pants, b/c it is hard to find ones that fit. Only the pants I really liked I would.

Re: Tailor versus new clothes?
It depends on how expensive the clothes were. I recently lost 25 lbs. and stocked up on new pants from NY&Co.--most were $20 or less, so I got 5 or 6 for $100.

Re: Tailor versus new clothes?
waits hem and crotch -that will cost about 15-20- thats probaby cheaper than new pants
id take all your favorite pants to the tailor - the expensive ones that you loved to wear - if you are spending $60-70 to make them fit you perfect, thats probably much better than getting all new pants
shirts are ok if they are a little big- but you can get the waist darted for a cheap price

Re: Tailor versus new clothes?
I always need my pants tailored regardless...so even if I bought new ones I would still be hitting the seamstress.
I would definitely bring them in and negotiate. If you bring 5 pants, ask them if they wil do anything for you...they love loyal customers!

Just a hem where I go is $10, but if it is $15 for all that it would be worth it to get them tailored.

Re: Tailor versus new clothes?
after i lost 20 lbs, i brought most of my clothes to be taken in (dress pants, dresses, skirts). for me, it was totally worth it!
for other things, i went shopping and replenished my wardrobe!

Re: Tailor versus new clothes?
Stacey and Clinton from What Not To Wear will always tell you to take your clothes to a tailor. Even if you buy new, the clothes that you get adjusted at the tailor will fit you better.
