table food help/ideas

DS is 14 months and still not really on table food. He will only eat certain things- pancakes, yogurt, goldfish and puffs. I tried giving him things like: little bits of pasta, and meatballs and he spits them right out. I end up giving him stage 3 jars just to get some sort of calories into him. Can you give me ideas on what I can try? What type of foods do/did you feed your LO when trying to transition them?

omg, i'm so happy i'm not alone!! lol dd is 11.5 months and MUCH prefer purees and is super, super picky.

French toast sticks, nutragrain bars, English muffin with butter or jelly, fish sticks, chicken nuggets, eggs, and veggie burgers were all suggested to me to try.

dd LOVES Italian bread with butter (I take most of the crust off) or sometimes I buy those small soft French rolls and slice it in half with butter too. she likes that.

she loves French fries and grilled cheese.

she will eat American cheese, if I give her small pieces. I tried mozzarella cheese today too and she didn't seem to like it, but it's a suggestion.

she likes mac & cheese. not the 1st time, but the 2nd time she did and ate more and more. I only gave her one noodle at a time to start, now she will take 3 or 4 per mouthful.

I found a recipe for squash fries... I haven't tried it yet but, you slice squash in the shape of French fries basically. coat them in beaten eggs, roll in panko breadcrumbs and bake at 400 for 10min.

and today, she ate little pieces of yellow and red peppers. go figure.

oh she also loves potatos... I buy a "potato croquet" from uncle guisseppe's sometimes. it's basically mashed potato coated in a breading.

Re: table food help/ideas

DS gave me such a hard time with purees so when he would eat table food I was so happy. I give him easy to chew foods....steamed carrots, avocado, yogurt, applesauce, banana, american and mozz. cheese, melon. At first he would gag on meat and a feeding therapist told me maybe it was too soon to start meat. I waited a couple weeks and he just ate small pieces of chicken yesterday without a problem. It takes them a while to get used to each food so you have to try each food a bunch of times. I would definitely try the easy to chew foods first until your LO gets used to it and the branch into different food. HTH
