synthroid, anyone? update

Just got prescribed synthroid and was wondering what any BTDTers would know what I should expect. As far as I know, I've never had thyroid issues before and I'm still taking this news in.

I was so sad to call DH and let him know that yet another thing is wrong with me.

update 2/14: I've been taking it for two days and I feel like a new person. I'm not at all tired and I'm been in an uncharacteristically good mood for two days -- to the point that I read my original post and I can't even remember what it feels like to feel sad. However, everything I've read makes it seem like it takes weeks for it to kick in, so maybe it's all in my head. Chat Icon Thoughts? Will this feeling wear off? Is this normal?

Re: synthroid, anyone?

i was diagnosed with hypothyroid too when I started seeing an RE.

Why woudl you feel somethings wrong with you?

Dont have that attittude and get yourself down. Think of this as a step towards making things better Chat Icon Chat Icon

The synthroid just helped me feel better- less tired, less exhausted all the tiem etc.

They will monitor the dosage and make sure your thyroid levels are normal on your dosage.

its not a big deal at all. MANY people are on it.

Any questions , you can FM me! Chat Icon

Re: synthroid, anyone?

I have Hashimoto's thyroid. I'm taking synthroid as well. It's not the greatest news in the world to hear you have something wrong with you, but at least this one is not so bad. The synthroid will keep your levels in check. You just have to get checked once in a while to make sure they are leveled. If you have any questions you can fm me.Chat Icon

Re: synthroid, anyone?

I have hypothroid and am on Synthroid (well -the generic levothyroxine) and so is my husband...Started on 75mg and am now up to 125 mg ....Its no big deal to take, 1 pill in the AM...I cant say I have noticed a huge difference in energy level but its definately a factor when it comes to IF so thats what brought it to my attention...Good Luck!

Re: synthroid, anyone?

I have what my RE terms subclinical hypothyroidism - my levels aren't extravagently high, but they were high enough to put me on 50mcg of synthroid.

And, let me tell you, I had NO idea how bad I felt, until I started taking the synthroid. Within about 3 weeks of taking it, I felt like a cloud lifted. I'm not as moody, not as cold, my hair, nails and skin aren't as dry, and I feel totally energized.

And, to boot, my metabolism has gone through the roof, so I can see why people lose weight while on it.

This, of all diagnosis', is not a bad one. Hopefully you're on the track to feeling much better!

I'm on it too. I dont' know if I feel better I'm on a really small dose 25mg and I didn't lose any weight (feels like i've gained but prob due to all the IF drugs). Seems like everyone I meet is on it too. I will say when you get your BFP have your thyroid levels checked right away. You'll probably need to find an endocrinologist too.

Re: synthroid, anyone? update

The manic feeling of the first two days on synthroid has warn off somewhat. I'm definitely in a better mood than before starting the meds, though not quite as mary sunshine as I was for the first two days.
