Synthoid VS. Generic

I have been taking the generic Synthroid (levothroxine) for about 1 year and it's been working fine. Saw a new dr. and needed a new prescription. He called it in for me. When I picked it up, it was the actual Synthroid. I of course was in a rush and didnt have time to wait for the pharmacist to ask his opinion...

I'm now wondering if it will work differently?

Anyone ever switch from one to the other??

Re: Synthoid VS. Generic

I can only take the synthroid, not the generic. Apparently my body is very picky, and with the generic the actual dosage can be off a little depending on who manufacturers it. I guess bids are filled for generics and the suppliers can change quite a bit. So the small change every 3 months was putting my body in a tailspin. I wish my body wasn't so picky because it is a difference of $5 for a 3 months supply versus the $65 for 3 months supply.

If you have been fine on the generic I would continue on that, but taking the real stuff won't be a problem.

There is a difference between the two. You should pick one and stick to it. You can switch if you want just stay with the synthroid going forward.

Re: Synthoid VS. Generic

I've been taking the synthroid for 3 days now and I don't know if it's in my head or not but I feel a little anxious and may have some heart palps.
Didn't have that with the generic.

Thinking I should just call pharmacy and see if they can switch it to generic

Or maybe just give it a few more days

Uhhhhhhhhhh

Def. gonna go back to generic. The name brand is making me feel like I'm going into Hyper. I was hyper before Hypo and I'm feeling those same things starting to happen.

The dosing on the generic is way different than it is with the brand-name. My PCP told me that if I wanted to switch to the generic for cost savings, he'd have to have my go off my Synthroid for about 3 weeks so he could get baseline bloodwork, and it would literally be like starting from scratch. WOW!

I would have ever thought it was such a big difference but it sure is.

I can't believe what it did to my body! I'm back on the generic and I'm feeling fine again.

I'll never make that mistake again
