Symptoms That Put You on Bedrest
I'm only 15 weeks and do far the dr says everything is fine. But I've been crampy the whole pregnancy (which I know they say is normal) but it's definitely gotten worse since I've been back at work. I'm a teacher so I basically spend most of my day standing, which isn't helping the situation. I'm getting worried that down the road I'll be put on bedrest, and I'm just curious what happened to eveyrone else to make their drs put them on bedrest.

Re: Symptoms That Put You on Bedrest
My Dr. to me on bed rest for a week because my blood pressure was high - 160/90. My mom came over yesterday and took my blood pressure and it went way down - 120/60. I go for my Level II on Saturday and I'll have my blood pressure taken again.

Re: Symptoms That Put You on Bedrest
I am a prime candidate for bedrest and my dr. hasn't put me on it.
My cervix went down from 3.0 to 1.5 centimeters between weeks 20 and 24, I went on progesterone, had steroid injections and contractions and he still thought it was unnecessary.
I am a HS English teacher, so I am running around all day.
His doesn't believe in bedrest as a "cure" and told me that going about a modified routine would be just as effective as bedrest.
I didn't believe him, but I went for my weekly sono today and my cervix has improved by .5 cm.
I guess it depends on your dr., but I think the situation has to be pretty serious to be prescribed bedrest.

My friend just went out on bedrest at 33 weeks. She has preeclampsia - her BP is high and she is all swollen.

Laura - I could have written this post myself! I too have had cramping since the beginning, and since being back at work and on my feet, the cramping is so much worse. I, too, worry about it being a problem at some point

Re: Symptoms That Put You on Bedrest
laura- my dr put me on bedrest when my cervix dropped from a 3.8 to a 2.8 at 20 wks. i had an emerg cerclage placed a few days later and thank god i did b/c my cervix was down to a 1.5 the day of the cerclage and if my dr. never caught this i would have lost the baby any day. thank god i can say that i am now 33.5 wks and my cervix has been at a 4.0 every week since the cerclage, and i will be bringing hm my baby soon. i lost my dd sydnie last yr at 23 wks due to not catching the cervix shortening on time. so please take all symptoms very seriously that u feel just isnt right. feel good and i wish u a happy/healthy pregnancy!!

I cramped a lot and I am a teacher as well so I was on my feet all day. I'm 38 weeks now and I've never been on bedrest at all. The cramping will get better, it's all part of the fun. Unless you're bleeding with the cramping and they suspect something is wrong there would be no reason for bedrest with cramping. It's just normal uterine stretching that's causing the cramps. Feel better.

Re: Symptoms That Put You on Bedrest
Your body is going through so many changes in the first trimester. All kinds of aches and all kinds of pains. I worried constantly that whole time, and had one scare with cramping too, but everything is totally fine now, thank goodness!!

Placenta previa for me
Same here. I am now 32+ weeks, but I have been on bed rest since I was 28 weeks because of placenta previa.

Re: Symptoms That Put You on Bedrest
great question - i was wondering about the stress with teaching... my kids are cute, but very needy this yr - i teach 3rd grade..
i think getting back into the groove is what hurts and we arent able to bounce back like pre-pregnancy.... the first few weeks of school always killed me - hopefully we can get used to it..

Re: Symptoms That Put You on Bedrest
I am also a teacher. . .the first week of school I had really bad cramps. I went to my perinatalogist and he wrote a letter stating I should decrease time on my feet and not carry heavy items. When I gave it to my director she stated that I am now a liability and that I should go out on bed rest. I spoke to my union rep which stated that was false and to have my doctor write that i am medically unable to work. My doctor wrote the letter and I am now home. Since it does not say bedrest I am able to go out and do things with in reason of course. I am currently 13 weeks preg. with twins.

So you had to be on bedrest cuz your work made you? Either way, that sucks. That's similar to what I'm worried about - too much cramping, etc. But it was good to hear everyone's stories. It made me feel better.
