I just called and Dr. Gilbert does accept my insurance. They won't make me an appointment until I have all of my records sent to them and they are reviewed. Then they will let me know IF they will take me as a patient and then will make me an appointment. Is this normal?? I said to the woman, but if I send you all of my records from my current doctor's office and then you don't take me, what do I do? She told me that I'd need to figure that out. I'm really disappointed.

Edited to change subject.....

Update: this seems to be the standard practice.....my concern is that I will have my records sent over and then they won't take me and I will be totally stuck.

Re: Really disappointed with Dr. Gilbert's office

That is strange. I don't work with her private office, only the larger one. I wonder if at her smaller office they are more selective because they don't want to overwhelm themselves? Did you try calling the larger practice to see what they say?

Also, just call your current doc and ask for a copy of your records. You don't need to tell them why. It is your right to have them.

I'm thinking though that at her smaller office she must just be more selective because she doesn't have the capacity for a large caseload. She spends most of her time at the larger office so I think it may be hard to get in to the smaller one.

It's actually not uncommon........I just called a second dr's office who I was referred to and they do the same thing. Apparently since I'm already pregnant, the dr needs to review my records and see if she/he will take me on. It seems to be protocol in the 2 offices I called.

Wow I switched dr at 10 weeks and had no issue. Sorry they are making you jump through hoops.

Maybe they just want to determine that you aren't high risk and that's why they need your records before "accepting you as a patient". It could just be that you aren't coming too late into your pregnancy or there isn't something you aren't telling them. They have to be careful.

I guess I got lucky then... I switched offices at almost 11 weeks and they didn't need my files or even push me to sign them over. I have an appointment this week and they still don't have my file (mostly because my old dr's office is being a pain)

I switched at I think it was 11 weeks, and one of the many doctors I called was Dr. Victor Klein who is in a practice with Dr Gilbert. When I called to schedule an appointment they wanted all of my records (entire OB/gYn history) and if I did not have it the day of my visit they would not see me. I didn't bother using that practice for other reasons.

I switched offices while pregnant and didn't have to send my records ahead.
