Switching from infant seat to convirtable car seat

When did you switch? my twins i didn't switch until they were 15 months. They were preemies and only 16lbs each and extremely short at their 1st birthday, so i was in no rush to move them out of their infant carriers. My 8 month old is almost at the height limit, he's got about 2" to go. I plan on getting him the evenflo symphony convertible car seat. But, do you think he's still too young? I'm HUGE on car seat safety (my 2.5 year olds are still rear facing and i don't plan on switching them anytime soon) so the thought of switching him freaks me out a little. Anyone switch their DC before a year due to outgrowing their infant seat?

I switched my dd around 6 months. I don't think it is any less safe than the infant seat (according to research) as long as you rear face!

I switched my twins at 17 months, but an infant seat is not any more safe then a convertible rear facing. It is just more convenient. HTH

I switched DS around 7 months. I think they can be in convertible car seats from a very young age but most people use the infant seat because it's much more convenient. My DS is big so I had to switch.

DD is 10.5 months, and we went shopping for a convertible seat yesterday. She is nowhere near the weight limit, but is a couple of inches from the height, so I'm getting prepared. I still like the infant carrier because she often sleeps in the car, and then I don't have to wake her, but it feels silly to use the snap n go, so I'm usually waking her by transferring her to the City Mini anyhow when we get to a store. Now that it's nice out, I've started carrying her into daycare instead of using the carrier, because it's so heavy. So, while I don't need to change yet, I'm leaning toward doing it very soon.

ETA: Some people don't even use the infant carrier. It's just a convenience. The convertible seat is just as safe.

We moved both boys in October - one at 10 mos (he was smaller) and one at 7 mos.

There is no difference in safety, it just stinks not having the convenience of getting them in the seat in the house or transfering directly to a Snap N Go.

I switched at 4 months. My DS is small but I didn;t want to carry the infant seat anymore so we jsut switched him. We have an evenflo and he is super comfy in it.

I switched DD at around 10 months.
She still fit the weight but the height was getting close.
I don't think it's any less safe- just make sure you rear face.

we switched at around 3 months since DS is a monster

as others said, it's not less safe as long as it's RF

it's a bit more of a pain in the butt at times, though, but you get used to it.

Thanks ladies! I did research and I read that it's just as safe as the I fant carriers, but I needed to actually hear from other moms, lol. Looks like we'll be getting that convertible seat soon. For some reason, the thought if it just makes me nervous.

My soon-to-be 6-month-old has about an inch to go before she outgrows her infant seat. I plan on switching her as soon as i can make up my mind on which convertible I want!

I need to switch my twins soon because whoever gets stuck in the back half of the snap and go gets scrunched up. The shorter one isnt even 25 inches yet. They are 6.5 mo.

I bought my convertible seat but haven't switched yet. We have the Chicco keyfit 30 so she has a few inches to go. (she's 6.5 months) I hate carrying the thing because with DD it's so heavy. But when she falls asleep in the car I'm thankful I don't need to wake her to get her in the house.

I switched ds at 4.5 months. He was just over 20lbs and way to heavy to be carrying around.

Switched DD around 10 months or so because she was just about at the height limit.

DD is 7 months and we are switching her this weekend.

We switched my son around 4 months. He was a very big baby, and the carrier just got too heavy for me to carry.

We will be keeping my daughter in the carrier a little longer, only because she sleeps really well when we are out and about, and it's just easier. My guess is that she'll be out of the infant carrier before 6 mos old.

I switched DD around 6 months I think...I started finding the infant seat annoying to use and she was in a convertible in the babysitters cars already and she was happier in the convertible seats so we just got one for our car too at that point.
