switching formula brands?
so i am FF and the hospital started me with enfamil newborn 2 oz nursettes.. my DS sucks one of those down dry, and always seems hungry, so i've tried to up the feedings a bit. I went to the doc twice so far this week, and DS still has not gone back up to his birth weight. The doc said to feed him more but i am having trouble finding a large size ready to feed bottle of enfamil. I managed to find 8 oz bottles of enfamil gentlease at target, but noticed that they sell the really large bottles of ready to feed by similac only, and it is more readily available (i noticed BJs also sells a case of the large bottles of ready to feed in similac). I forgot to ask the doctor about switching brands of formula, i do know that he said definitely do not switch to powder right now, so I was wondering if anyone has switched brands successfully? TIA!

Ask your Ped but mine told me from day one that I could switch brands as long as DS was not on a special formula. That Similac, Enfamil, Good Start are all the same unless you go into the ones for certain issues.
Also, I fed DS powder from the minute I got home from the hospital. Whenever we gave him ready to feed he spit up.

Re: switching formula brands?
I switched right to powder as soon as we ran out of the nursettes from the hosptial. I went from the Enfamil nursettes to BJ's brand powder My Dr had no issues with it, nor did my DD

You can find the RTF Enfamil at BRU. Idk if they make the newborn version in RTF larger than nursettes. They make the yellow label kind in tall cans. All formulas are not the same, they have very different ingredients, so please do a little research or speak to your Ped before selecting a brand.

Formulas have different ingredient and amounts of ingredients. I personally wouldn't jump back and forth between brands. If you are going to make the switch then stay with the new brand. Also, dont back and forth between the gentlease and regular, those are different too. The only thing the enfamil newborn has is more vitamin d then the infant. If you stat to give the infant you might want to supplement with a vitamin d drop so they are getting the recommended daily amount.
Why did your Dr say no powder? My DS as a preemie and my Dr had no problem with DS going to powder at about 3 weeks old.
If you can't find RTF what about the concentrated?

Re: switching formula brands?
hm good to see different responses... i would love to use powder if i can especially since its so much less $ wise! I don't know why the ped said i couldn't use powder, he said just stick with RTF so i guess next time i will ask him when I can at least try switching to the powder.

switching formula brands?
Ive tried all formuls (mainly powders) without any weaning. I stuck with whatever was on sale and DS had no problems. Most of these formulas have the same ingredients. The only one I noticed was different from the others was the Gerber. In any case, every baby is different maybe try weaning your LO on to a new formula slowly but doing a 50/50 mix and see how he does. GL

Re: switching formula brands?
My peditrician said changing formulas often is not ideal for young infants. She said I should stick to what works and either powder or ready fill is fine. My dd is on enfamil newborn we used ready fill untill she was taking more than 2oz at a time and than switched to the powder version. When she turns 16 weeks I plan to put her on Gerber Good Start because it is cheaper and my older dd did awesome on it.

Re: switching formula brands?
my dd takes the same formula. she will be 1 month this week. i have soe nursettes and if we are out i will just dump 2 of them into an empty bottle. i started her on the powder during the 1st week and havent had any issues. right now she either gets powder mostly, or a few bottles of breast milk during the daytime. we use the nursettes when we are out or at night sometimes because it seems thicker and i hope it helps her sleep longer, but who knows. the doc never had a prob with her eating all 3.

Re: switching formula brands?
my ped thought it was fine to switch between similac and enfamil, but not goodstart because goodstart had a different composition. I'd ask, but as long as there are no issues, I think its fine.
