Switch plates and Wall plates

We need to replace some of the switch plates and wall plates in our house. The ones in the master bedroom are going to be first. We are painting the walls BM Saybrook Sage and the windows and doors have a wood trim.

What would you suggest for the switch plates and wall plates? Wood? Silver/stainless steel? Other?? I need some advice thanks!

Re: Switch plates and Wall plates

We have wood trim in the bathroom...and replaced the switchplates with wood ones that we stained. In our bedrooms and office we have have wood trim around the doors but have white switchplates. as we repaint the rooms we might change to wood.

I think it depends on your decoration in the rooms.

Thanks! I was thinking of staining the wood ones. Where did you get yours if I can ask?

Re: Switch plates and Wall plates

the silver/stainless steel may show fingerprints very easily.

we have white trim in our house, so we have white outlets (FFIL replaced all of the sockets when we first bought the house) and we put white plates on them.

got them at Home Depot. they have the basic sizes and configurations but if you need something different you might have to order it.

They were only like $3.50 a plate. Thats a pretty good price!! Chat Icon

Re: Switch plates and Wall plates

I like the wood paintable/stainable ones. I have the ones in the bedrooms painted the same color as the walls. In my main area, I had the same thing but when we renovated, we got new outlets and they put white. I have yet to replace them with the wood painted ones but eventually will. I like when they blend in.

Ooh that's a good price. I looked fast online today and they were double that price. I will definitely check out Home Depot this week! Thanks so much!

This house thing is new to us and I feel like I have a million questions!!!

That is why we were thinking of wood because we have wood trim throughout. I figured we would replace one room at a time and first up is the master bedroom.

We have mostly brass in each room with a few choice decorative ones. None of them are our taste.

Re: Switch plates and Wall plates

I bought several switchplate covers from e-bay seller pacific10112.

They have hundreds of styles and I was able to match things like my bedspread, color of my rooms, room style, etc. I kept each room consistent, but used several of their styles in my house.

here are some of the styles they have for sale now. They look better in person and there are some totally different ones if you don't like these. (They also have outlet ones, the ones for the big switches and double ones).

Re: Switch plates and Wall plates

A lot of the ones that I replaced are either paintable wood ones to match the door and window frames that I also painted, or clear covers that accept a swatch of fabric, paper, wallpaper, etc. In our bathroom, we have a wallpaper border, so I took a swatch from there, and put that in the plate, so it matches exactly. I got all of them from HomeDepot.

We have white trim throughout the house and I went with a brushed nickel finish. No issue with fingerprints.

Re: Switch plates and Wall plates

I covered the white plastic ones with decoupages tissue paper and it looks really cool. I don't have pics but if you FM I can send them to you and pics when I get home. I am visiting my sister right now

We got something very similar to this at Lowes. They go very well with all the old original molding in our house. I think they were $4 or $5 each. It added up to be $$$, but they look so good that it was worth it.

We got ones similar to this from Lowes as well and they look fabulous.

We also got some brushed nickel ones for the living room/dining room and some plain ones for hallways and our office.
