swing or bouncey seat?

if you had significant space/storage limitations (think Manhattan apartment) and only wanted one or the other, would you say it's better to have a swing or a bouncey seat? i'm leaning towards bouncey seat but am open to hearing someone tell me i'm nuts. maybe i'm naive, but if you never put a baby in a swing, they will never know what they're missing, right?

Re: swing or bouncey seat?

Well, my DS loved both. But with space limitations I think you can get by with just a bouncy seat. I think they do have some travel sized swings though, so if you find you need one you could always try that.

Re: swing or bouncey seat?

I live in an apt in Manhattan and opted for both. The bouncy seat was great for when I wanted to go inro a different room, or for keeping DD upright after eating (she spit up a lot).

The swing was good for getting her to nap or just zone out.

Sure they took up space, but I used them a ton during the first few months, and felt it was worth it to have both of them.

(We actually managed to find room for 3 strollers and 2 swings in my apt. You'd be surprised how you can get creative with space in the city!)

I def think you need both. Swing is great for naps and bouncy for play. If I had to pick I would say swing

Re: swing or bouncey seat?

If I could only have one I would go with the swing. It is so much more useful, especially in the beginning. DD took many of her naps it - it was the only thing she would sleep in besides my arms.

I know there are full size swings that have legs that fold together so you can store it up against a wall or in a closet when you're not using it, if space is an issue.

ETA - I would find a way to get both if possible. The bouncy seat doesn't take up much room at all. But if that is absolutely impossible, get a swing.

I live in an apt too and my mother in law said I was nuts for not registering for a swing...I ended up getting the graco portable swing stand that you can put the graco car seat in. and it folds up when ur not using it. I read it's good cause if u move baby from car to house u dont have to take them out of the car seat to put into the swing. plus it's portable.

DS liked both and they are really for different reasons. If you really only have room for 1, then I'd go with the swing.

The swing is good for sleeping. Especially early on, DS would only sleep in his swing. He napped in it for months!

The bouncy seat was good when I needed to shower or cook dinner. DS didn't love it, but would be ok for the 15 minutes I needed to shower and get dressed.

DS couldn't care less about the swing but LIVED in the bouncey seat -- took naps in it, slept in it at night because he refused the crib for awhile, hung out in it.

Sad thing is you won't know while they really like until they're here. Maybe get both and return the one DC isn't a fan of.
