Swimming lessons- girls
Scenario- your 2 year old DD takes swimming lessons at a gym (a regular gym used by adults- NOT a saf t swim or a pool used exclusively by children). After the lesson she needs to get dried and changed in the locker room. Would you be ok with DH taking her into the men’s locker room to change her?

Ummmm... maybe? I mean she’s so small I guess I would do the same with my boys taken them into the girls room with me but I feel that’s more of the norm kwim. I mean there’s no reason why a man can’t help his daughter. If she was maybe 4 or 5 I would be more hesitant but at 2, it shouldn’t be an issue. How does your DH feel?

I would not for a variety of reasons. I'm still scarred from having to go in the women's locker room with my mom as a kid lol. No way I'd send her into the men's. We use the Y and they have a family locker room so it's only for adults with children and there are dressing rooms most adults used. Do they have even just a family bathroom he could change her in?

At 2 I’m sure she wouldn’t be aware of much. I’d go into a corner, change her quickly, and slip out. Unless these dudes are all wandering around in the buff, it shouldn’t be an issue.

There are so many little boys changing in the womens’s locker at the Y. I have never even thought twice about it. In my locker room, they have changing stalls in the locker room so if you’re concerned about men seeing her change that might be an option. He could also change her in the bathroom in the locker room.

Tricky. If there are a lot of men walking around naked ( ), perhaps he can just take her into a bathroom or the handicap stall and change her there?
Otherwise, I think at 2, children don't think that seeing an adult naked is weird or uncomfortable. He could probably just quickly change her in a corner and she wouldn't even realize where she was.

I think this depends a lot on how your family functions. A girl with a brother may not bat an eye, my niece who is nearly two and showers with her dad would not bat an eye. My daughters who have never been exposed to naked boys of any age would definitely have a lot to say.

Yes. Even at almost 5 my dd gives zero thought to getting naked or seeing others naked. Dh brings her into a stall though if it’s availabke.

Thanks all. This came up at work the other day and started quite the debate and it appears I am in fact the odd one out.
DH does not take her into the men's locker room. We are both uncomfortable with it and I think even if I suggested it to DH he wouldn't be cool with it. Everyone in my office thought I was absolutely crazy. Maybe I am?!

Yeah, we are not a "naked" family. Like at all. I don't think DD has ever seen me naked and I can say with 1000% certainty she has never seen DH naked. I couldn't fathom showering with her. Even when I change her in the women's locker room I keep her covered with a towel as much as I can.

They might surprise you! We are a mostly all girl family (male cousins are much older) and my kids have no issues or comments when seeing naked little boys in the locker room after swimming.

Oh, no. We had an incident just last week and the comments from them afterward were pretty interesting.

I wouldn't be uncomfortable with my 2 year old seeing others naked, as she wouldn't really know what was going on. But I would be very uncomfortable with others potentially watching my daughter getting changed- especially in a men's locker room.

This is exactly my thought process. There are a lot of sickos in the world. I don't even love having her naked in the women's locker room (which is why I try to cover her as much as I can).

Can’t you just take her Into a bathroom stall and change her? I see some parents doing that after our lessons. I just change my son in the middle of the locker room but I can understand people having reservations about that.

In the summer, a cute towel like bathing suit coverup may be a great option. She could also wear those things that allow you to change under them.
The Y is full of very old people in my area... I wouldn’t be too concerned.
My kids don’t blink an eye at nakedness. But we have 2 girls and a boy and DH and I.

No, if she would be exposed to nude men, I would not be ok with it at all.

The gym where my son took lessons had a separate changing room right next to the pool so he just changed there after lessons. I'm guessing your gym doesn't have that little stalled area right next to the pool then?
