Swimming at YMCA

Anyone take the baby swim classes there? Are they actual swimming lessons or are the classes more like mommy and me in the water?
TIA!

I took my son there for Mommy and Me classes when he was a baby and now we started him in actual swimming classes. They are really great AND you're still able to get in the water with them up until they are moved up to the next level. There are about 6 children in his class per 1 instructor and most of the children are in the water with their parents. The next level has a max of 5 children per instructor. My son loves going there and we all love it. The classes are 45 minutes long and they're cheap compared with other places. I go to the YMCA in LIC and it is not crowded, the facilities are new and clean, the showers and changing/locker room is spacious and there is a sauna. I would greatly recommend it for beginner lessons on budget.

Thanks! But the classes for the young ones (DD is 14 months) is not actual swimming instruction, right?

They are, sort of. Its mainly to get them used to being in the water, kicking their feet and blowing bubbles...its so cute and fun for them and really teaches them to love being in the water.
