Re: Sushi
if you're not showing yet, just mention to them that you are pregnant - so they wipe down the surfaces they cut on to avoid cross-contamination.
enjoy!! I'm thinking of getting the same thing for dinner!

Re: Sushi
I was going to post about letting then know you are pg so they use clean cutting board and knives so there won't be any cross contamination.
I know at some point I will crave some sushi and go for the Cali roll or veggie roll. But right now there is not much that is appealing to me.

Yes they do, and I wish I lived in Japan right now!!!!!
Some don't eat even cooked sushi because of the fear of cross contamination, but I eat it, I have to or I will explode from cravings.

YES!!!! Sushi restaurants in Japan freeze their fish for a certain period of time, which kills any parasites within the fish, same as cooking.
My girlfriend's DH was stationed in Japan for years and she ate a ton of sushi..

hmm...I have to say that I will probably be the worst pregnant woman in creation.
I will probably continue to eat sushi on occassion, from a good restaurant.
I will also probably eat all cheese and prosciutto, as I am sure women in Italy do no stop eating this.
I will also drink a glass of wine every now and again, as I was informed by my mother that she drank copious amounts of alcohol before realizing she was in fact pregnant (about 12 weeks in)
I don't know...my mom birthed 5 healthy kids eating bologna and smoking....times have certainly changed.
I want to be careful. but not a zealot.

I have done all of the above, except the smoking. I am sure all will be fine.....if you do it in moderation.

Re: Sushi
there is still a risk of contamination even with cooked fish - b/c the bacteria can be spread from raw to cooked fish. But, if you go to reputable places, the risk declines.
Also, I have to tell you, I got food posioning from an Eel Roll - that was cooked - and though everything is OK with the baby I had one hell of a time. And was SO worried about the baby!!! Since than.. for me, no more sushi till i deliver!

Re: Sushi
You can get food poisoning from any food. It's parasites you have to worry about with raw sushi.
I still eat it. The cooked stuff that is.

Re: Sushi
my doctor didn't say anything about sushi, so i plan to eat it! she did, however, tell me not to eat fish more than once a week. that probably has to do wit h the whole mercury thing.
