Sunrise Labs
I went into Sunrise Lab today to make an appt for my one hour test. I was told I had to be at the lab by 8am. Have to fast 12 hours before then. The only flavor they have is orange. Not one of my favorite flavors. But they do keep it in the fridge. I told the tech about my previously bad experience and she said I could bring a bottle of water and take a few sips of that in between drinking the yucky stuff. I asked if I could bring a cup of crushed ice to use. She said yes....She told me to watch what I eat the day before I go. Avoid high sugar foods and drink and high carbs. It can affect some peoples sugar. I know that Gatorade has been keeping my numbers up high lately....My OB recommended that I eat some thing before I go or I will definitely get sick. I bough some whole wheat english muffins. I will eat one before I go.
I am going towards the end of the week. I will try eating an english muffin and then test myself and see what it does to my numbers...

Re: Sunrise Labs
Do you have GD or are you diabetic already? I would think eating before would mess w/ the #s. There is another test, you fast, have blood taken, then eat pancakes w/ syrup, then 2 hours after finishing your meal you get blood work again....

Re: Sunrise Labs
I suffer from hypoglycemia...I can't go that long without eating. I won't eat anything the night before, and have something small before I go. If I don't, I risk having serious issues and ending up in the hospital again. My doctor will know that I ate some thing and draw his conclusion from that...
Did you do the pancake test? I would much rather do that...Do you have anymore info on it...Thanks.

Re: Sunrise Labs
Ohhh ok gotcha, yay you have to be careful then.
I did do the pancake test. I did the 3 hour test early on b/c my #s were high at an appt. and I tolerated ok. I wasn't feeling well at about 26 or 27 weeks (1-2 weeks before you do the real 1 hour test). My OB just had me do the Pancake test instead, not sure why but he did.
It showed I had elevated #s and I have GD.
The specialist I went to had someone do that b/c they could not tolerate the drink...you may be better off w/ that, you can get up get the blood work done right away then go eat and have it drawn after the 2 hours??
I don't have any other info but you can mention it to your OB and maybe they will know about it??
Good luck and keep me posted!!

Re: Sunrise Labs
Thank you...That is definitely a question worth asking. I asked the tech what happens if I can't do it again. She had no idea. I test myself on a daily basis now. If I see my numbers running high (which is rare) i try and figure out what I have eaten and don't eat it anymore. I can go on a diet if needed...Only 2 more months to go...
