Sunday is DD's baptism UPDATE

70 people are coming, the restaurant is ON the water in Port Washington... can I get a big F M L right about now?!

I am still waiting until tomorrow to make a final decision if we will have to postpone it. My sister and her fiance (the godmother and godfather) are also in Turks and Caicos right now, and who knows if their flight will even leave on Saturday.... my sister did mention that the forecast in Turks and Caicos is saying that it should move to the ocean and not hit us directly. They are also saying it won't be that bad as they are making it here... Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Vent over.... I don't know what to do!!! Chat Icon

update: We rescheduled for 9/18/11- hopefully with sunshine and rainbows!!!!

Re: Sunday is DD's baptism

DD's baptism was last weekend and I had the party outside at our house and it was forecast to rain on Sunday. Luckily, the rain held out until after the party ended. I had about 60 people at the party.

Here's what I would do in your situation.

1. Call the restaurant and ask them what their precautions are. Have they closed before during a bad storm? Do they have room indoors for the full party (not sure if you were having any party outside at the restaurant)

2. Call the Church and ask them what happens if the godparents are unable to attend due to weather hindering their flight. They may just allow you to have an adult step in for them.

3. Lastly, breathe!!! Everything will work itself out and as long as your DD is happy and content, that is all that matters!!Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Sunday is DD's baptism

Sorry! I feel your pain though... DS's baptism was in the blizzard the day after Christmas. I kept it on because my out-of-towners were already here. Looking back, I probably should've cancelled it.. Some people were stuck here for days!

ETA- I had about 1/2 the people show up.

Re: Sunday is DD's baptism

My nephew was supposed to be baptized on Sunday as well. My SIL said that the church said the "don't foresee having any Christenings due to the impending hurricane." So they rescheduled.

I would definitely check with the church!Chat Icon

Good luck!

I would consider rescheduling it. I know I wouldn't want to leave the house even if the storm misses us. It's still going to be rainy and miserable. You're likely to get 1/2 the people (or less) and be miserable all day. Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Sunday is DD's baptism

we called today, they said that they are still on- I emailed the restaurant and they are soooo nice- they are willing to reschedule , but we will make the final decision tomorrow to get a better idea of what is projected. This is crazy! I might just have to reschedule the whole thing- So far I had about 5 people email/ call me to cancel... Chat Icon

I'm sorry: I'd cancel & reschedule. Have it on a nicer day... at the very least, it'll be very stormy & rainy.

It rained hard on my wedding & we had LOTS of no shows... I can't imagine with this forecast...

BTW: I had DS's earlier this month at a restaurant on the water at Port Washington... as there are only 2... it was really a nice experience!
