summer camp

will you be sending your child/ren to summer camp? Do you feel that it's important? I sent DD for the past 2 years and now we have 2 kids and just can't swing it this summer. Camp is just so pricey (especially with 2 kids attending). I feel a bit guilty not sending them and then I feel they will be bored but then I thought when I was younger I never went to camp and I still had great time during summer.

What will you be doing?

I send mine for one month.
If I wasn't working, I wouldn't send him.
It helps us with childcare (and is done through school).

Re: summer camp

I did sign both kids up. I also felt really guilty keeping them home. It's so expensive that we are going to have to cut back this year, we may skip summer vacation this year among other things. I never went to camp, but the children in my neighborhood are in camp all summer. Doesn't seem fair to keep my kids home when no one else is around. Stinks because this is thousands of dollars I never planned on spending Chat Icon

I know...I am so torn. The kids in the neighborhood are all in camp too. I work full time but my parents said they will watch the whole summer. DH and I are discussing this and he thinks it's just too pricey for us and he rather us take a family vacation this year instead.

It kind of came down to this for us, vacation vs. camp. Not an easy decision. The one thing is no kids around, I felt badly last summer because of this reason

How old are your kids? Mine will be 5&6 when they start camp

Ok, personally think you could get away with keeping them home this summer. Maybe you could send the older one a few days a week but they are still young. Next year may be another story Chat Icon

Will your parents take them places? There are so many free and inexpensive things to do. I wouldn't strain your finances and would skip the camp this year. We are out and about all summer and I promise there are kids around!

We are doing a local town camp. Three days a week for three hours. She loves it and asked to go back. Works perfect with our schedule.

Re: summer camp

It's very important to me and I sacrifice a lot so my son can go. His camp is a bit over the top and some people think it's pretentious but I want my son to be able to say that he was at camp when an elephant came to visit and when the owners left in a hot air balloon. I want him to learn every cheesey camp song. I went to camp and I was later a counselor. However, I don't think that skipping a summer is so bad, plus your kids are young.
