suggestions beyond care.com for a sitter
So my mom has always watched my dd when i work or my dh and i need a night out. Im starting to feel uncomfortable lately since my mothers mental health is starting to decline.
Can you offer suggestions as to who else we can ask to babysit? Or who to ask if they know people who can babysit?
Ive asked my dd teachers if they know of anyone but they did not. Both their daughters are away at college and when they are home is the only time they could babysit. Which is not a solution
We also live in a new town and dont know a ton of people yet.
I had a positive experience previously with care.com but i was home when the girl was here, she was a mothers helper. To hire a total stranger to babysit and we wont be home scares me. I guess how do i get more comfortable with the idea is another question i have...

Even a friend of a friend is a stranger.
You may consider a daycare option (more people watching your kid, thus, supervised).
For nights out, at a certain age, kiddie gyms do "parents night out" programs.
Another option is to have someone watch under supervision of your mother.
We ended up going with someone from care.com. She has another job (part time) and lives in the neighborhood. She's worked out better than I could have imagined. Background check work (meaning calling references) is critical.

Anewdayhascome i moved but thank you!
Thanks all! I may just have to so care.com again and ask the person to come when im home a few times to get used to her and see how my dd is with her. That would make me more comfy. And yes a backgrouns check def i did that last time and called her references. I guess thats my only option. My mother wouldnt be ok with that. She cant admit she is having issues. So i have a whole other set of problems that im also trying to deal with.
