Such Decisions...Daycare Related
I am only 4 mos pregnant and not looking for daycare until Jan of 09. However I've started the "hunt" already. I live out east in Medford. I've visited Kiddie Kampus in Medford, Kindercare in Farmingville, and Tutor Time in Holbrook. they are all different, yet similar. I really like Kiddie Kampus but they aren't even starting their infant program until September (renovating this summer) so it's hard to "imagine". Kindercare was very decent too. Tutor Time was probably my third pick at this time. I have to make decisions and will prob leave two deposits in the meantime The thing is, Kindercare only requires a $100 deposit to hold a place, where Kiddie Kampus want two weeks salary...so thats $520. Kiddie Kampus is $260 a week, $20 extra for early drop off. Kindercare and Tutor Time are $315/week. Hummm...it's so hard ot make a decision and I don't want to lose $520, I can deal with $100.
HELP!
Thanks

Re: Such Decisions...Daycare Related
I can tell you that my younger son has gone to Tutor Time in Holbrook since her was an infant ( and is now 5) and I highly recommend it.. I am VERY picky about my kids with EVERYTHING and childcare and I would not take them anywhere else... I looked at all the same ones you did... The directors have all been there for years and everyone is really really nice.... FM me if you'd like more info!! I know you said it's your third choice, but maybe some inside info may help

Something to consider . . . do you want daycare close to home or close to the office???
For me, having daycare close to work is more important because if they call with a problem I want to be able to get there sooner rather than later AND my office will in emergency situations like that allow me to bring DD back to work so I don't have to take sick time.

Re: Such Decisions...Daycare Related
I would avoid Tutor Time in Holbrook simply due to this:
Tutor Time Holbrook
/17/2008 418-1.3(m) Corrected Brief Description: Adequate and safe water supply and sewage facilities must be provided and must comply with State and local laws. Hot and cold running water must be available and accessible at all times. 03/17/2008 418-1.5(a) Corrected Brief Description: Suitable precautions must be taken to eliminate all conditions in areas accessible to children which pose a safety or health hazard. 06/20/2006 418-1.9(h) Serious Corrected Brief Description: Methods of discipline, interaction or toilet training which frighten, demean or humiliate a child are prohibited. 05/16/2006 418-1.10(a) Serious Corrected Brief Description: Any abuse or maltreatment of a child, either as an incident of discipline or otherwise, is prohibited. A center must prohibit and may not tolerate or in any manner condone an act of abuse or maltreatment by anyone under the provider's control. 05/16/2006 418-1.10(c)(2) Serious Corrected Brief Description: When staff alert the director or director's designee to the suspected abuse or maltreatment of a child in care, the director or designee is responsible for making or causing to be made an immediate report to the SCR by telephone, followed by a written report within 48 hours as specified. If the staff becomes aware that the director or director's designee has not made a report to the SCR, then staff must report the alleged abuse or maltreatment directly to the SCR. When I was looking, Kindercare had some serious violations, but nothing as bad as that. There is however no approved director at the Kindercare location, which would be a turn off to me.
Did you look at The Learning Experience in Centereach on Holbrook Road? They only require the registration fee of $125 (I believe), to hold your spot and they require no deposits.

Re: Such Decisions...Daycare Related
I don't know your requirements/wants for daycare, but I live and work in the area and know at my school there are several flyers in the faculty room for in-home daycare providers in Bellport Village and East Patchogue...I don't know any of them personally, but would be happy to pass on their names if you are interested.
