Stupid Question about Glucose Test
Do I need to fast? I know that if I fail I have to go for the 3 hour in which I have to drink something. But do you drink something for the first one? TIA!

You don't have to fast and yes, you will drink a sugarly drink when you arrive- wait an hour, then blood draw.

Evidently every doctor and lab is different but both times I took the test I was told to fast by my OB and the lab.

Check with your Dr bc I had to fast... and both times (1hr and 2hr) you have to drink something and you have 5 mins to get it all down... it wasn't that bad (the taste).

I didn't have to. I was just told not to eat anything too sugary before going. I had cereal for breakfast, and a salad for lunch. Went around 3pm.

I was told to fast by the lab as well.
ETA: i never did the 1 hr only a 2 hr... i had blood done before hour 1 and hour 2 and i had to give urine samples every time as well... idk if that makes a diff.

Stupid Question about Glucose Test
I didn't have to fast for the 1 hr. but they gave me the drink at my previous appt. to put it in my fridge before hand so I didn't have to wait in the waiting room the day of.
But for the three hour one I had to fast 12-14 hrs before hand

Yes you are supposed to fast before this test. The first vial of blood they draw when you walk in, before drinking the glucose, is your fasting blood sugar level. Then they give you the drink once that is done, which you have five minutes to drink, to see how your body reacts to glucose. It's very important that you do not eat so that they first number gives an accurate picture of your levels. I had this text four times

Guess I did it wrong!
My dr told me I didn't have to fast for the 1 hour and neither did the lab.
I also only had one blood draw- an hour after the drink - none before.
Oh well... probably better that I didn't- have to fast- I would have fainted.

I had the 1hr and they only drew one vial of my blood after I drank the glucose. They sent me home with the drink at my previous appointment so I was not even in their office before or during the time I was drinking it.

I did all my GTT at the lab and not the doctor's office. Both times I was pregnant they made me fast, even for the 1 hour. I guess it depends on the doctor's orders.

I only had to stop eating a few hours before and my doctor gave me the drink to drink on my own before coming to the office. I actually downed it before getting on the subway on my way to my doctor's office. I only had one blood draw after an hour went by.

I didn't have to fast at all. I ate about an hour before the test and passed by a lot.
Edited to clarify- I didn't eat an hour before the blood was taken, I ate about an hour before I went in to have the drink!

My doctor told me not to fast, but to eat a non-sugary breakfast. I ate oatmeal and I passed.

I just did it yesterday. I was not told to fast, however I've done this 4 times now, I've fasted each time, and passed each time. So, I do it first thing in the morning before breakfast, that's what I'd suggest.
Annnnnd, just found out I failed.
