Stupid question - mashed potatoes a gravy
Sorry to make me sound like a total dope, but growing up we never ate mashed potatoes! I have no idea why. Anyhoo - how do I make just mashed potatoes and gravy?
Loey has a Thanksgiving feast and that's what we are supposed to bring.

Mashed potatoes are easy. Boil water, peel potatoes, boil potatoes until you can stick a fork in them easily. Use a hand mixer to mix them with milk, butter and seasoning. I used garlic, salt and pepper. I also use half and half instead of milk.
As for the gravy, the person making the turkey should really be making gravy. You boil all the giblets and turkey neck to make a broth then you slowly boil the broth with sifted flour, I use Wondra. You add salt pepper to taste. Just keep stirring with a whisk until it gets thick. if it gets too thick you can add water until its the right consistency. I guess if you aren't making the turkey you can use chick broth instead. Good luck!
You can FM me if you have any further questions.

peel and cut potatatoes into cubes, put on pot of water. Boil potatoes until you can put a fork through it.
Then add butter, black pepper and milk and mash until smooth. I actually like to beat them with my mixer, its faster! Add milk slowly until you get the texture you want. You can add other flavors... sometime i cook garlic in the butter before i mix it in.
My new trick is that i like to add a couple of TBS of cream cheese... makes them sooooo creamy!!!
Gravy... usually the drippings are used... but I actually like the mccormack pkgs and I add the drippings to that.
