Stuffy nose.. I can't breathe! What can I take?
So I woke up with a stuffy nose yesterday and it's gotten worse. I am almost to the point of not being able to breathe from either nostril and I'm breathing through my mouth. I tried steaming and it's no help. I can't blow my nose..nothing is happening! I'm getting very frustrated and very uncomfortable....I'm about to cry... What can I take that is safe???? Please help me before I suffocate!

Re: Stuffy nose.. I can't breathe! What can I take?
you should contact your doctor. My doc told me vicks vapo rub, sudafed (not the one behind the counter-the one on the shelves is called phenyepinephrine), and saline spray, and any tylenol product.
I also used a vaporizer with vicks in it which helped before i knew about what i could take. feel better..

The sheet said robitussin but I only have the peak cold one which is not okay.

the sudafed is the pill. they are small red ones and usually last few hours at best.. the box says 4-6 hours. I took it as sparingly as possible. I was a nervous nelly..

I have tried just about everything as I have been dealing with this for about 10 weeks now! I tried the neti pot for the first time last night and I was shocked that I actually got about 7 hours of relief... I am hoping this just isn't a fluke!

Yeah me too! I get nervous... This is my second time in 8 weeks of getting a little cold! I've only taken 1 Tylenol so far a few weeks ago. Thanks I'll look for it tomorrow

I use a Neti Pot... not the most comfortable thing to use, but it's saline and dries me up for a while and there's no drugs to worry about.

Yeah the feeling was a little weird. Kind of reminded me of the way your nose would feel after swimming underwater if that makes any sense! honestly it was so worth it though. I really thought it would be a waste since the saline spray does nothing for me but it seemed to work.

ITA about the Neti Pot. There's no medication to worry about and it clears out your sinus. Just be careful that you follow instructions carefully (another nervous nelly here) it gets a bit tedious to properly clean a neti pot but once you get the hang of it, it is the best.

ITA !!!!! Neti Pot is the way to go!
ed: I use plain water and the effects are the same. I agree, the feeling is like getting water up your nose but it clears me out completely with no drugs

Get the neti pot and also go to the doctor. I was on Amox. for three weeks for an awful sinus infection. I'm not 100% yet but so much better than I was. The netipot is the freakiest thing you will do but you will get relief.

Neti pot is the way to go. But one piece of advice use filtered water, boil it first then wait for it to get luke warm. There were 2 cases in Louisiana where people died after neti pot use with tap water because of a rare brain eating amoeba.sorry dont want to scare anyone just want everyone to be aware.
Also saline spray and sleep with a humidifier. That helped me when i had a bad stuffy nose and congestion.
