How long do you cook stuffed peppers for in the oven?

Re: Stuffed Peppers

I actually put the empty shells in a tray (sauce on the bottom and heat them while I make the filling) for about 10-15 minutes. Then I stuff them with the meat/rice mixture, top with sauce and cheese and put them back in for another 5 minutes until the cheese is melted. If you like the shells softer.. leave them in longer while you prepare the stuffing. If you like them more crisp, leave them in for a shorter time.

Thanks!!

Do you cook the meat/rice mixture beforehand? And I'm assuming you use a marinara sauce?

I actually do a quick saute of onions/garlic then brown the meat with that (I usually use turky but if I use beef I drain it after browning). Season it with worcestershire, beef base, pepper - and then throw in a handful of cheese, the peas, the rice (cooked in beef stock) and plain old Hunts tomato sauce - not their pasta sauce. I don't know why - but it just works really well with the stuffed peppers!Chat Icon
