Students fundraising for THON with a can on the street?
Since this past September, I've been seeing students walking around with a large can on sidewalks and the street, approaching cars at stop lights asking for donations to THON. I'm aware of THON, but I've just never seen them use this approach before.
Does anybody know if they're legit?

Students fundraising for THON with a can on the street?
I don't know if its legit, but I've noticed it recently, too. I think it's pretty strange to have teenagers going up to cars, in the middle of traffic to collect money. There just seems to be so many things wrong with that

Canning is when Penn Staters stand on the sidewalk or store fronts with a can and a sign reading, "HELP KIDS FIGHT CANCER". Canister Solicitation helps THON raise the most money. WIB's canning weekends are a great way to know other members, enjoy the big sleepover, home-cooked meals, and counting the money that contributes to WIB's THON total!

AHhh!!! Those weekends make sense because I don't see them every weekend, but the students definitely had a presence on specific weekends.
Now I feel bad for not giving those students money.  (Sucks that it's comes down to that.  )

THON is the Penn State dance marathon. I went to penn state and "canned" many weekends...I can assure you it's absolutely legit!! They're raising money for kids with cancer.

Our friends' daughter usually sends me mailings for donations, so I'm a familiar with THON, but I had never actually seen students out actively fundraising with a can before...not where I live anyway. I don't know if they do it elsewhere on the island, but in all the years I've been living here, I've never seen it.
