strollers and car seats
What's the best brands/kind and why?
My sister told me the city mini was good and then also to get a snap and go car seat/stroller, so I looked online and I liked the Chicco one, but I know nothing about them! Is that a good one? I've heard from a few people not to get the travel system because they are bulky and the snap and go is easier.
What does everyone else think?
Also should I just register for an infant car seat or should I register for another one for when they're older just to have it? Also do I get 2 car seats for my husband and I or just get an extra base?
This is hard!!!

strollers and car seats
I have the city mini and I love it, but now I wish I had gotten the city select bc it can become a double stroller. Now I have to get rid of my city mini and buy a new double stroller. Wish I thought of that before!
I have a Chicco key fit 30. It is highly rated. I think that one and Greco are the most common.
You don't need 2 just an extra base.
I would also get a snap and go. It is great for drs appts and errands. I had the carseat attachment on my city mini for long walks but the snap and go is so convenient
I register for a britax convertible carseat and just put it away until DS was ready for it.
Do you have the baby bargains book? I found it so helpful with deciding which brands were best and highest rated.

ITA with word for word of this (except that i didnt have the city mini car seat attachment)...i do have the city mini but DD is only 4 months so we havent started using it yet. we stick with the snap and go which is so light and easy to take places.

Re: strollers and car seats
Will you be taking lots of walks outside when the baby is little? If so, the snap n go has very small wheels and not the best for outdoor terrain - it's better for mall rats
Since we plan on taking lots of walks outside and I live in a very accessible area to outdoor shopping centers, etc. it was important to use to get a 'snap n go' type stroller that works well for the outdoors as well. Because of this, we went with the Uppababy Cruz as our stroller. You could take the seat out and use the frame as a snap n go. The wheels are great for the outdoors and our (Chico) car seat snaps right into it with the adapter. I also like that it has a much bigger basket than the snap n go and city mini.
The other strollers are good choices too of course, but it's so preference based and depends on your needs and priorities.
I agree the travel systems are very bulky!

Re: strollers and car seats
We have to snap and go, which I definitely recommend. Especially for running errands or going to the mall.
We also have the city mini and used the car seat adapter. It was perfect for walks around the neighborhood.
As far as the carseat, especially for the infant one, I would go to a store and look and them and pick them up. Some will be more comfortable for you than others and some are really heavy. We have to Graco Snugride and I love it.
I did not register for the convertible car seat b/c I didn't feel like having to research them at the time, but if you know what you want I would definitely register for it. We finally settled on the Britax Marathon. I like it, but the straps are ridiculously annoying getting twisted all the time.

Re: strollers and car seats
We' registered for the city select and the car seat adapter. Basically, the entire stroller seat comes out leaving just the frame. With the attachment it basically turns into a snap and go (it is def heavier though then the snap and go). Personally, I couldn't rationalize buying a separate stroller for the first year or so. I also like that the city select has multiple seat options and can become a double stroller with the purchase of a second seat.
As for car seat, like others have said, register for 1 seat (comes with the base) and a second car seat. I know some people that did register for the next stroller but no one I know got it. That's up to you.
O, we also registered for the key fit car seat.

Re: strollers and car seats
We got the Britax B-Agile travel system. It came with the stroller and car seat. The B-agile is their version of the city mini. It's almost identical. For us we didn't see a need in having two different strollers, plus the car seat. The travel system is super easy and the car seat just snaps right in. It's super easy and we love it. Plus the Britax was higher rated in safety than the Graco snug ride and that was important to us.

strollers and car seats
ahh this is so confusing! I've been looking at strollers for hours and I can't decide what to do. On one hand- we are probably going to start trying for a second when this one is about a year/ year and a half. So maybe I should get a stroller that converts into a double. But I know I'd rather have something light-weight and I also don't want to get a million different strollers because we have no room! I have heard that if you're going to get a travel system that the Britax B-Agile is the one to get because it's still light-weight. Maybe that's better than getting the snap and go.
Of course my husband is only looking for a stroller that has nice "rims" lol he's no help at all!!

Re: strollers and car seats
Everyone is going to tell you something different, I suggest you buy the Baby Bargains book for 2013 and go from there. It helped me understand the difference in a lot of these strollers and everything else (furniture, breast pumps etc..)

Re: strollers and car seats
Have you gone to a store and tried any of them out? That may help you make up your mind. One may be more comfortable to push, easier to fold etc. Make sure your DH tests it out with you!

Re: strollers and car seats
We registered for the city select. I really like the fact that it has an option for a second seat for when #2 comes. It also has many ways to arrange the sitting position as well as using it kind of like a snap n go. We didn't get it at the shower but we did get enough in gift cards to get so we will pick it up this weekend!

strollers and car seats
I highly recommend the Chicco KeyFit30 for a car seat. It has top ratings safety-wise and it's easy to use.
In terms of strollers, I know Chicco makes their own version of a Snap andGo now. They didn't when I had DS. But if they did I would've registered for it. Other strollers have come along way in the past 3 years so new moms are better with offering that advice! I had a Maclaren and it worked just fine. The basket was a little small and not sturdy enough and that was my major complaint.
ETA: I also highly recommend Baby Bargains! I get that for every new mom I know! helped make registering WAY less overwhelming.
