stressful job + pregnancy
If your job is stressful, how do you keep yourself calm?
My job is insane & when I get stressed, I feel it in my stomach, you know? I really hope I'm not damaging the baby.

Re: stressful job + pregnancy
I know you are totally right. I used to skip lunch when I was really busy (before preg) but I can't afford to do that b/c I will get a migraine that will last me days. I get into work at 8 am & I am making 7pm my defininite cut off. I just have to be adamant & show my company that they are #2.

ditto! when i feel stressed i go to the ladies room, rub my belly and tell the baby i love it sooooooo much and apologize for all the stress.
i remind myself everyday that my job is just somewhere i go that pays my bills. all that matters are the little bean and my DH!

I used to skip lunch also...my job is absolutely crazy. I stopped skipping lunch. When I get stressed at work...I just keep thinking about the baby and how much he/she needs me right now to take care of myself. I also try to put the job into perspective by thinking "is this really worth stressing over?"

Re: stressful job + pregnancy
My job has been crazy stressful (and working two jobs most of the PG), and we also just moved to a new house when I am 9 mos. PG and sold our old home....
I figure I am preparing for what life is really like. It's stressful, so he might as well get used to it now.

Re: stressful job + pregnancy
It took me a LOOOOOOONG time and a scare in my 1st pregnancy to finally realize that I just need to take things as they come. I bust my butt (11+ hour work days) but have things more in a perspective now. The world will not end if XYZ has to wait until tomorrow, or even the next day. I am not an ER dr - nothing is life threatening - and things moved before I came along, they will sure move after I'm gone.
I know it's tough - you sound like a workaholic like me - but priorities have changed and will continue once DC is here. It doesn't mean you have to let things fall at your job (see above - I'm still working 11+ hour work days, 6mos preggo w/ #2; I also sent my last work email at 1am the morning I was scheduled for my c-section w/ DS) but you can change how you react to it. Just do your best and when it's too much acknowledge that you're human (pregnant or not) and some things will just have to wait.

Re: stressful job + pregnancy
Its been somewhat stressful, but it will be worse work-load-wise in the fall, and thats when baby will be here too.
We just hired a cleaning lady, actually they're here right now, to help.
I think we'll just have to figure it out and juggle...I don't think it will be easy, but we'll have to do it somehow...
I plan on having my mom help with baby 1 day a week, and hopefully get into a routine with work/home/baby/dogs/etc
I guess its kind of scary, going into the unknown, but we will figure it out

Re: stressful job + pregnancy
I get really stressed out at work, this week was a good example, I spent one whole day in tears and did not even want to eat lunch - but I made myself for the baby....
I have anxiety issues and now that I'm pg I can't take any meds for it so I have to rely on old fashioned methods - I do a "reality check" with myself - I remind myself, I work in the corporate world - no one's life is at stake, no one's millions...If I have to, I go into the ladies room and take 10 deep breaths to re-focus...

I also think about the PG women who lost husbands during 9/11...There were so many, and those babies turned out fine.
I think the babies are much more resilient than we sometimes give them credit for.

Re: stressful job + pregnancy
I work in WFC right by ground zero. It is 4 buildings that are connected.
When I get stressed at work or just need a break, I go for walk to the other side of the building - grab a decaf coffee or tea - and walk back. That takes about 20 minutes and calms me down.
Most of my stress is client related (asking dumb questions ) or deadline related (having lots of meetings to prepare for).
For the client stuff, my turnaround time used to be a day, now I give myself two days.
For the meeting stuff, unfortunately I sometimes devote a Saturday to preparing presentations. I lose out on "me" time, but at least I can work without the phone ringing or emails coming in.
Once the baby comes I know that will have to change, but it works for now.
Just remember to put yourself and your baby FIRST. No job is worth endangering your health.
