Strep throat in home with newborn wwyd
I had strept throat when my DS was 5 months old and he happened to have a well visit during that time. Ped said it was unlikely that he would catch it, because their tonsils are so tiny at that age.
Ets: he didn't catch strept from me

I wouldn't leave, but I would try and avoid contact. Everyone washing hands, open up the windows. Babies can't catch strep, but you also don't want DD to get a cold.

This happened to me when I had a newborn and I was told the same as above. Rare and unlikely for a newborn to catch strep due to their tonsils being so small. Just try to minimize contact as much as you can!

I would just keep the baby away from her and Purell, Purell, Purell any time you are going to be handling the baby.

I would keep the baby away, no direct contact, no being near for at least 24 hours after antibiotics are started. Washing hands with soap and water, constantly throughout the day. I would open the windows, wipe down toys, seats and other areas.
You can still get strep throat even if you have your tonsils out, although it is less likely because the tonsils are what can grab and hold the bacteria in. So the "babies have smaller tonsils" theory could be part of it, but younger infants do not get strep from what I have been told.
Good luck!!

I was always told that small babies couldn't get strep, but DD got it at 3m. From what the ped said, she was by far the youngest case he remembered, so it is definitely possible!

Re: Strep throat in home with newborn wwyd
I would stay somewhere else. When my DS got home from the NICU I had returned to work(as a teacher) a week before he came home. I caught strep. My ped said the same thing about them usually not catching it until they were at least 1 year, but he did a throat culture. Sure enough my DS caught it and had to be put on antibiotics. If DS didn't start eating again he was gonig back to the hospital. I wouldn't risk it. If you can stay somewhere else or at least clean everything top to bottom!
