Strep Mommas- Help please
My dd 3.5 was dx with strep on Sat. It actually was affecting her belly and is why I brought her in. She never once complained about her throat. She had vomiting and diarrhea since Thurs and wasnt improving, she was getting worse. She was lethargic and so tired. Wouldnt get out of bed. She tested positive for strep on Sat.
Given antibiotics for 10 days, started Sat. Today is day 5 and while overall I would say shes doing better, shes playful and in a good mood... She wakes up her usual cheerful self and asks what were doing today. And where are we going. And jokes with me and is just herself. I do notice shes still very tired. I had to wake her up very early yesterday so she lost a good 2 hours of sleep so I know that was going to make her worse today. But shes napping right now, she NEVER naps. And still running a low grade fever. She wakes up and its normal then by the afternoon shes got 100.1-100.4 I give her Tylenol and it usually comes down. Yesterday it wouldnt drop it stayed 100.2 all day and then finally dropped at night around 5-6pm.
She went from diarrhea through Sunday, to now shes constipated and hasnt passed her bowels since Sunday. Im trying everything to get her to go. Suppository yesterday, pear juice, probiotics, broccoli, sweet potatoes, etc. I just bought stool softeners for her.
The other day she barely urinated I brought her right in they tested her urine it was absolutely clean they said. They sent to a lab to be on the safe side. Shes back to peeing normally now.
And shes super duper clingy. Shes always asking to go home. And she will tell me Im so tired I just want to go to bed now. She NEVER tells me that EVER. She is the queen of trying to fight her bedtime (LOL)
I just want to ask to mommas who have had kids with strep is this normal? How long until they were 100% better? Were they super tired like this?
Im so scared that more is going on. I know Ive been very anxious lately due to some stuff I have recently been through, and constantly reading horrible stories of how a child wasnt properly dx'ed and grew gravely ill... Just terrifies me...
but I dont know if its my anxiety or maternal instinct telling me that something else is going on here. I have literally NEVER seen her so sick. Shes literally never been so tired and looking to sleep. Asking to go home. Wanting to just get in her bed. She had the flu like a year ago and she was fine through that.
Ive called her Dr but I know hes not going to call back right away probably wont be until tonight. I am just absolutely losing my mind with anxiety.

Re: Strep Mommas- Help please
Did they test her for flu? I ask because that is similar to how DD has been acting and she tested positive for flu. I have never seen her like this and it was scaring me for a while. Even though she had a flu shot, she got the flu and they say it's going around very bad right now.
Maybe she has flu or something else- in addition to the strep?
And if you are worried, go to PM peds tonight maybe.
DD was at the dr on tuesday- dx with flu. She has been complaining and crying in pain about her ear since then- but they had checked it on Tuesday and said it was clear so I didn't think much of it. But she wasn't getting better and I was getting nervous- so DH took her back today and sure enough- EAR INFECTION- 2 days later! My point- if you feel there is more going on, it can't hurt to have her seen again. Even to ease your mind

Re: Strep Mommas- Help please
I'd take her back in to be safe. I am hearing a lot of strep on top of flu. My daughter had a week where she complained she was tired, belly pain but then seem fine. Then she had a stomach bug for 2.5 days - no vomit just upset stomach. She was weak for a couple days and then herself for 4 and then bam! FLU!! less than a week later....She started with low grade fever never getting higher than 101 for 2 days. Dr said it was viral - didn't even test her for flu at first because she seemed too good to have flu...by 2nd night she spiked to 104 so I brought her back and ten it was diagnosed as the flu. She is just finishing up the flu now after 7 days....She would act normal for a bit than get super tired and exhausted. It was back and forth. I am big on mother's instinct...can't hurt to get her rechecked...

Thank you. I spoke with the dr tonight. He said sounds like she may have upper respiratory infection. She developed a dry bark/hacky cough. He said if doesnt improve tomorrow with some nebulizer treatments bring her in sat. Ill be there sat cause every time shes sick it always settles in her chest. I will ask them to re-swab her as well. She finally pooped! So im super happy about that.
