Just keep trying. It takes a while to learn it. I think I tried a regular straw first to have them understand the idea.

This. They also make a training cup where you can squeeze the cup so the water comes up the straw for the baby. But I think if you keep offering a straw cup the kids usually catch on pretty quickly.

I miss that one too this time around! I had dd suck from a straw that I put I a glass of water, put ,my finger over the top and let it drip into her mouth. Just this weekend, she finally got the straw on her own! She's 10 mos. Dd1 was much earlier, but we had the squeeze cup for her.

Re: Straw Cup
Keep offering and trying. We started offering it to my DS around 6 months and after 2 weeks he got the hang of it. I tried 3 different ones but ultimately used the Munchkin weighted straw cup. I found he learned the easiest on that one.

Why is it so hard to suck liquid out of this? My husband and I can't even suck water out of it, let alone my 7 month old!

Near the top there is a valve. Roll it back and forth between your fingers to open it more. Also run hot water through it from the bottom. That should help.
Something geared for older kids like the camelback straw cup can help them learn bc it's much easier to get the liquid out.

Try the Zoli cup. At that age it was the only straw cup my DD was able to use.

you can buy a honey bear straw cup on amazon which is squeezable. it's a teaching cup. looks just like a honey bear. it's a ridiculous price for what you get but it taught my DC very quickly how to use a straw.

Re: Straw Cup
we started with these Munchkin cups (which now that I'm looking, i don't think they make anymore) and it taught my girls very quickly to drink from a straw. There were able to drink from a regular straw by 10 months
Now they use these as their everyday cups. All Munchkin brand
