Strange question-need advice

I was just on Craig's list poking around. I am always searching toys, just to see what's out there.

A woman has a post on there that she needs toys and clothes for her 5-year-old daughter for Christmas. She's a single mom who left her husband b/c he was abusive and so on. She says she has no money to provide any kind of Christmas for her DD.

Would you think something like this is legit? It's pulling at my heart strings but I don't want to be taken for a ride. It's really bothering me though after reading her post. Should I send something? What would you do?

i dont trust that at all...be careful...i know its sad but there are plenty of places to get toys and clothes...she obviously has a computer...just be careful

Makes me skeptical of it...I'd steer clear and hope she gets help elsewhere if she really needs it.

Unfortunately, I would stay away. Lots of people use CL to take advantage of people. You can suggest she call Toys 4 Tots as they will provide toys for anyone.

i would be skeptical too.. she obviously has internet access, so things cant be too bad.. youre very sweet, but i would def be careful with stuff like that.

Thanks for your words of wisdom. I will steer clear of her and make a donation to a reputable outreach program instead.

Just chiming in about the computer thing. She could be at the library, or had a computer prior to leaving her husband, etc. So I really don't think having access to or even having a computer is indicitive of someone being a "scammer."
