without your kids.

About the Program:
Reading to kids helps them develop the building blocks that they need to learn
to read! Research has shown that reading with children in the early years is the
single most important activity we can share to prepare readers and writers. When
we read with our children, it enhances their listening, speaking and thinking
skills, as well as their understanding of sounds and letters, the building
blocks for reading.

The night will begin with a family story time as Dr. Lederer reads My Little
Sister Ate One Hare by Bill Grossman. Afterwards, the children will go into our
childcare room to play games and enjoy activities centered on the story. At the
same time, parents will have the opportunity to hear Dr. Lederer speak and to
participate in a discussion of how to read to your child in a way that
encourages emergent literacy skills, bonding between you and your child, and
also supports your child*s budding imagination.

About the Speaker:
Dr. Suzy Lederer, Associate Professor of Communication Sciences and Disorders
at Adelphi University, has been invited to deliver this exciting program as
part of our Parent Coffee Series.
