Innocence lost at such a young age. These are the things that I worry about with my very nieces and nephews. They're involved in so many sports and after school activities.
Investigation of karate teacher's sex abuse grows

"A Ronkonkoma karate teacher charged with the sexual abuse of a 13-year-old student is being investigated for secretly videotaping his students and having improper relationships with as many as 10 other boys, Suffolk police said Wednesday.
The investigation of James Bonfiglio, owner of Excel Karate Academy, has uncovered hidden cameras and videos shot in his apartment and at the karate school, according to Det. Sgt. Gene Bragoli, who said additional unspecified charges were likely.
Suffolk district attorney spokesman Robert Clifford said prosecutors were "aware of additional information since the defendant was placed under arrest. That information will be presented to a Suffolk County grand jury." Citing the secrecy of those proceedings, he declined to comment further.
Bonfiglio, 37, was arrested Oct. 11 after one of his students told his mother and police that he'd had sex with his longtime teacher, authorities said.
As the subsequent investigation unfolded, detectives searched Bonfiglio's Ronkonkoma apartment, where prosecutors have alleged he had sex with the 13-year-old twice in July, and the Johnson Avenue karate school, said Bragoli, of the Special Victims Section.
Police said they found at least two hidden video cameras in his apartment, while another was uncovered in the karate school bathroom.
Investigators also seized Bonfiglio's computer, where saved e-mails and instant messages "indicated something wrong was going on" with as many as 10 other male students, all minors, Bragoli said. Detectives are still interviewing some of those children and their parents to learn the extent of those relationships, he said.
"Unfortunately, it looks like this has been going on for a long time," Bragoli said.
The computer also contained videos, apparently shot by the hidden cameras, some of which showed naked boys, Bragoli said. He declined to elaborate on the content of those videos or the number of students who were filmed."

This kind of stuff used to bother me before I had Alex, but now, OMG, I just can't even stomach reading these things.
This is why I plan on talking with my daughter ALL the time about what is, and is not, appropriate behavior, and to let her know that she can talk to me about ANYTHING.

I heard about this a little while ago. DS and I go to karate (different school), so I guess word spreads pretty quick among karate schools. I don't know how people could do things like this.
I hope he gets a jail cell mate that really hates men who abuse kids, and shows him how it feels to be violated....
