Stopping Progesterone?

I'm using progesterone during the 2ww. If I test positive for pregnancy I continue through 11 weeks, if I test negative I stop using them.

At what point do you stop testing for pregnancy? I got a positive opk on cycle day 11. Should I stop testing on cycle day 26? That would be 14dpo and the time I think AF should be due. Or should I test two extra days since my cycles vary between 26-30 days? If I wait until 28 days that would be 16dpo.

If I'm not pregnant I want to stop ASAP so I can get my period but I don't want to stop too soon just in case I am pregnant. Highly unlikely but that would be my luck.

I tested negative this morning at 12dpo so I'm pretty sure that I'm out and I would love to stop using these suppositories. What would be a good day to give up on testing?

Do you go for betas? I usually stop if I spot b/c I know Af is coming, or after beta. I'd say if you still don't have AF by 14DPO, go for a beta.

Good luck! Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Stopping Progesterone?

I went to my RE for the beta test exactly two weeks after the IUI. As soon as I got the phone call it was a BFN I stopped them right away and got AF 3 days later. Did your RE tell you to make an apt. for blood work? If not I would wait at least 14-16 DPO.

Good luck Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Are you not being monitored by an RE? Your RE should tell you when to stop your progesterone. Good luck!!!!Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Stopping Progesterone?

I am not seeing an RE.

I had a miscarriage a few months ago and the chromosome testing came back normal so my OB started checking my mid luteal progesterone to see if I had a defect. It seemed like my level was fine and enough days long but the month we started trying (this month) my progesterone was lower than 20 so she wrote me a prescription for the progesterone "just in case" I became pregnant this cycle. She said it couldn't hurt. I don't want another miscarriage so I will do anything to help my chances as long as it's not harmful.

Now I am just waiting to see what happens. When I became pregnant the last time we just stopped being careful and it happened the first month. I tested positive on day 28 of that cycle with a very faint bfp. I was not tracking ovulation because I had just stopped birth control so I have no idea how many dpo I was when I tested on day 28. I could have been 10dpo or 16dpo. Who knows. This month we used the opk (because I needed to track for the mid luteal testing) and we Chat Icon a lot before, during and after O. I thought if I were to become pregnant I would have gotten a bfp by now since I got the positive opk on day 11. I am on day 23 of my cycle. Could it take longer? I think I'm out, but like I said, I don't want to stop using the medication prematurely at 14dpo just in case. At the same time I want to be realistic, this is our first month trying again and the chances are not in our favor.

I know this isn't infertility related but nobody else seems to have experience with using progesterone on the other board. I figured I'd get more help here.

Thank you all for responding. Chat Icon

trust me, i am in your shoes every month, but you should reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally wait for the beta. Once, i stopped them, b/c tests were -, but beta came back at 5 and kept growing. I lost that pregnancy at 7 weeks, but since then I always use them until an official negative beta.

I'm sorry for your loss Chat Icon That is the catch, I don't want to stop the progesterone thinking I'm out and then it ends up that I'm pregnant. I guess I'll see how it goes over the weekend and if I'm still getting negatives but I feel unsure I'll request a blood test before stopping.

Do the suppositories delay AF or can it stop it from coming? I looked online and found mixed answers. I feel like I am going to get AF, I've been feeling crampy and I'm not sure if it's AF, a side effect or even pregnancy?

I am on Prometrium 3x a day vaginally. Not sure if that is what you or anyone else is taking.

Re: Stopping Progesterone?

yes, suppositories delay AF. prometrium is not as strong as regular prog, so you might actually start AF on it. but usually AF staya away while you are on suppositories
