Stony Brook or St. Charles?
Hi All! I am new to LIF though I have been stalking for a while...
I recently moved and am looking to change OB's. Do you prefer St. Charles or Stony Brook? I always thought Stony Brook but the dr that was rec. to me delivers at St. Charles (Dr. Erhart)
Thanks!

Re: Stony Brook or St. Charles?
I delivered at St Charles (and I will again with this baby) and I looooooved it. I had a wonderful experience there. The nurses and staff are great and I liked that it was a smaller, more personal hospital. It's very bright and cheery and the food is delish too. lol. I also like that their visiting hrs were more restrictive than other hospitals. I was tired and needed to recover and I appreciated the fact that there wasn't hours and hours of open door visiting. Plus, the baby stays in the nursery during visiting hrs which for me was a plus. I was very happy with everything there.

Re: Stony Brook or St. Charles?
I delivered at both... first time St Charles, second time Stony Brook... if I had a choice btwn the two, I would absolutely hands down choose St Charles!
I also liked the more restrictive visiting hours, the food was delish, and the baby has to stay in the nursery at night, which I think took a lot of pressure off me, and helped me recover better.
At Stony Brook, the major plus was a private room, but that really didnt make much of a difference- I would take the roommate anyday over the experience I had at SB... I felt so lonely... since visiting hours were so open, people were so spread out-- i liked it better when everyone was there at once. At one point the nurse got pissed at me because I asked them to not give DS a binkey... she said fine then, he has to sleep in your room... I was recovering from a c-section and they just left him with me... I couldnt even get up to get him when he cried- I was so miserable at SB, I made my DH take me home a day early!!

Re: Stony Brook or St. Charles?
i'm probably partial, as my mom was a labor & delivery room nurse for 30 years in st charles so i kind of "grew up" around that hopital so to speak... but i just delivered there and i have not one complaint. the nurses were absolutely amazing and i've always loved that it's a smaller hospital. honestly, i've never heard a bad word from anyone thats delivered there.

Re: Stony Brook or St. Charles?
I delivered at stony brook and probably will again. My biggest and only complaint is the interruptions. It's a teaching hospital so you will see many students. It wasn't just the interruptions but also conflicting advice related to BFing. Next time I will only allow MY ob, MY ped and the lactation consultant. Oh and the photographer. Otherwise I loved the staff and the private rooms!!
