Stony Brook Doctors???

Anyone recc. their doctor who delivers at Stony Brook hospital? I am switching doctors and want to just see 1 doctor throughout my pregnancy rather than the entire practice. Thanks!

Can I ask why you are set on one doctor? I go to a multi-doctor practice and I really feel that is the best decision. If you only have one doctor and your doctor isn't available for any reason when you go to give birth, you could end up with a stranger delivering your baby. Also, I benefit from having multiple doctors examining my file and making decisions on my progress. My practice has two doctors and works with a third doctor who helps with deliveries (they are in Nassau so I wouldn't recommend them). I would just recommend being more open to the idea of a multi-doctor practice.

I felt the same as you. My last Dr had her own practice and she had to move out of state becaus it was too expensive here. When I delivered my DS she was with me in the hosp from 7:30am to 11:30 pm. She said I got her out of doing the dishes =). She was back at 5am to check on me and DS. She was truelly the best Dr I ever had and really set a high standard. WHen I had to shop again I couldn't find anyone (associated with stonybrook) that could compare and they were all group practices. I am currently at a group (Three Village Women) and I have to say I am VERY pleased. It is not my ideal situation but I really did search. SIngle practices are far and few between nowadays (at least in NY when medical malpractice ins is like 150,000).

I think I replied to your earlier post but my Dr. and the practice he is in delivers at Stony Brook. I see Dr. Porte in E. Setauket.

Now while he is in a practice I've really only seen him with the exception of the one time he was on vcation. They did encourage me to get to know the other dr.'s incase he is not available to deliver me.

I really haven't had anything but good experiences with that practice so far.

I see Dr. Robert O'Keefe in Setauket. He delivers at stony brook, but he is in the same practice as the previous posters dr. porte. I've been very happy with this practice!!

Thanks- I wouldnt mind doing a small group practice but where i go to now- there are about 15 doctors which so far, Ive seen 5l different ones and none of them may be there during delivery!

After going to Suffolk ob for years I switched to Dr. Porte/OKeefe group. I love them their are four in the practice, 2 men and 2 women. I have met all of them and would feel comfortable with any of them deliverying me. It is a crap shoot and the larger the group the more likely you will get someone you really haven't met. Also Stony Brook has beautiful, private rooms, and a NICU if need be.

third vote for Three Village. I switched to them b/c my sister in law raved about them. I love them, they truely make you feel welcome and they are very professional.
