Re: stomach question

I would LOVE to know too! All my fat goes to my stomach. I feel like I have strong abs underneath, but a layer of fat on top. I hate it!

Re: stomach question

You need to do cardio or pilates in order to burn the fat first. Only then will you see any results from ab exercises.

Does that mean I shouldn't even be doing crunches at this point? Will that be counter productive? Or can I do the abs and burn at the same time?

How do pilates differ from ab work?

Here is the issue at hand, you may have toned abs but some fat covering them so it will be difficult to see definition.

I would say crunches are never counter-productive as you are strengthening your core muscles which will allow you to get better at other things (ie running).

Pilates is a type of exercise, which does not focus just on your abs, but on your entire body. Generally though it works very well at strengthening your core and making you overall leaner.

Re: stomach question

I have the same issue. I can feel the muscles underneath the fat but the fat doesn't seem to want to go away completely. My stomach has definitely gone down while losing weight so it's a start.

I am doing the elliptical 5 times a week and Pilates 3 times a week. I am hoping this will do the trick.

Re: stomach question

I'm no expert, but I've listened to enough instructors at my gym to know that the best thing you can do is a combination of cardio and strength training. Even if you trade off every other day doing one or the other, it is def better than only doing cardio or only doing weights.

For me, I try to do cardio at least 5x a week with maybe 2 or 3 days of strength training mixed in. Your muscles need those other days to rest!

That makes a lot of sense. I know this is going to sound stupid, but how long should I be doing cardio for in order to lose fat?

A while.. your better off doing weight training or curcuit training to shed the fat...build muscle
Diet is key along with exercise. You will get better results.

After my 2nd baby I had that flab around my waist. I did my normail cardio and weight training. For abs I use the exercise ball/Core excercises and lost at least 3 inches

I agree with this!

I don't usually carry my weight around my middle but earlier this year when I gained a few I saw some of the weight going to the stomach area.

I have a workout regimine that includes diff types of cardio and weight training...but I guess the sweets were adding up.

So what I did was add one more day of cardio and weights...so I workout 6 days a week instead of 5. I also cut out sugar except a no sugar added ice pop every night and sugar from fruit.

Since then I dropped about 10lbs...and am just about as lean as I possibly could get...while still eating like a normal person and going out occasionally.

I never thought this would work but the sugar and 6 days a week made the difference. I also have been on a regimine of prednisone for the last 2 months and people usually gain weight from it and I continued to drop a few more lbs.

Hope this helps.

Re: stomach question

I tend to gain weight there first- it's kind of like a warning to me

I noticed it recently- muffin top, jeans getting tight

so I started running again and really watching what I eat (not dieting- just thinking- like if I eat alot of carbs for lunch- I eat more protein and salad for dinner)

and it hasn't even been 2 weeks and I notice a huge difference already

I also cut out soda and have been drinking tons of water

Re: stomach question

i don't really gain weight in my stomach however i'm overall my leanest when i run regularly - you can't spot reduce but upping your cardio should help you reduce fat overall.
