Re: Still unaffordable???
this is surprising to you?
the average family of 4 in this country is living on about $40K a year
minium wage workers make $6-$7 an hour
it's sad- but it's nothing new

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Mansfield, Ohio, homes cost a median $85,000, requiring $29,118 in income.
Maybe we should all move to mansfield, ohiio....

it's sad- but it's nothing new Not surprising, just feel really bad for those people who want to be homeowners and cannot. Salaries are just not increasing to the point of affordabilioty for most.

I mean we are house hunting now and my husband and I make a very good combined income! Despite the fact that we are looking at houses that are affordable to us, the cost of the monthly payment including taxes, insurance, utilities, etc... would be close to $4000 per month!!! I don't care what anybody says or how much someone makes...it is a ton of money to shell out each month!!!!! I just figured it would be different! I figured we would have more of a buffer each month.

Re: Still unaffordable???
we are looking at around the same payment- but I would much rather own my home then keep on making my Land Lord rich
and considering what I pay for a 1 bedroom apartment- paying double for a 4 bedroom house with a driveway, garage and a big yard- doesn't seem so bad
just to have more then 1 bathroom is worth and a place to park my car is worth $2K more a month to me!

I know and think exactly the same way you do! we have been renting for 2 years and after all is said and done...it cost us almost $50,000 to rent for two years!!!!:
But it still stinks!!!! Okay housing vent over!!!! Carry on!!!!

Re: Still unaffordable???
funny you should say that- b/c this morning I added up all the rent I have paid in the last 4 years
and my total is- $25K for 2 years in the city- rent only- me alone
LB for 2 years- $41K- with DH
and then this year will be - $22K- including electric with DH
so for 5 years of renting I spent- $88K
and I am married to a mortgage banker!

When I tell my parents this they say that's why you need to buy a house!!! No sh!t!! That's why we rented for two years, in order to save to pay twice our rent each month for our house!!!

Re: Still unaffordable???
well if it makes you feel better- you will probably even out now that prices have come down- that's why we didn't buy 2 years ago
my whole family would say- how can you be enagaged to a mortgage banker and rent?
now they say we are so smart for waiting!
