Still sick... what's the sectret to giving meds

Poor Mason is so miserable. He has RSV Chat Icon He didn't have much formula yesterday and the poor kid is sooo congested. The Ped put him on amoxacylin and a nebulizer.

I know you're supposed to poor it slowly down the side of his cheek, but this kid will fight tooth and nail. When he doesn't want something he'll let you know. We tried it all. He won't eat so that's out. How do I get a 6.5 month old to take the meds? DH did it with my mom this morning so slow. He got a lot of it, but a lot dribbles out. What do you do then?
Thanks

poor Mason! I hope he feels better soon!

Try coming at him from behind, seems to work for my DD. DD's high chair reclines, so I would recline it and stand behind her she didn't seem to fight it much this way since she couldn't see the syringe coming.

Thanks! We'll try that.

We did put him in the highchair. Didn't put it back, but that's a good idea and we'll try from behind and distract him.

not the most gentle of ways but I have held miki's nose closed when she was a baby, forcing her to open her mouth and swallow.....gotta do what you gotta do

As you put the medicine in, tap under his bottom lip about one inch above the bottom of the chin. It creates a swallow reflex and he will automatically swallow the medicine.

yup ive done that a few times. Figure she's so stuffed up its also a gut instinct to open her mouth.

AJ actually loves meds. I made a big deal out of them .. OOOOoh Yummm MMMMMM and she sorta got into it. Considering that at 6mo she had no other tastes but milk I guess that did it for her Chat Icon Now that she has other tastes I have to hold her face and shove the tip into her mouth (gently of course) and push a little in at a time. Chat Icon After a bit she'll tastes it and open up for more.

I usually put a little in at a time and follow it immediately with the binky. That seems to work for us. It takes several times, but we finally get it all in.

i use to do that too.... and if that doesnt work.... i believe babiesrus sells a binky where you can put the medicine in it and baby will suck it out.
