starting to point things out

Luce is communicating. he still isn't saying anything, but he is starting to see things and get my attention.

on Saturday he was in the shopping cart at the Super and doing his "ooooh. ooooohhhh" and getting louder each time, all while looking up and to the right.

it took me a few seconds to realize he saw a helium ballon in the air. he stopped "yelling" as I brought him closer and just stared at it. I didn't dare let him touch it Chat Icon

he also does his "oohh oohh" when he sees the pool or people he loves.

I still can't figure out if he's saying something in English or Spanish, but I know what he's saying, know what I am saying? Chat Icon Chat Icon

btdt's what else should I be doing/looking for to encourage this?Chat Icon

Re: starting to point things out

This is one of my favorite parts of the baby stage, when they start rudimentary communication Chat Icon Chat Icon Yael is starting to sign to me, which just melts me!

The only thing I would recommend is to keep pointing at things and saying a few times the word for it. So, when he points to the balloon - bring it down to him, point to it and say Balloon slowly for him a few times.

Re: starting to point things out

When Luca did that I would just repeat the hell out of myself. "Ooh, you see the balloon! Yes, that's a balloon, a big, blue balloon! Isn't it pretty! Can you say 'balloon'?"

And on and on ad nauseum Chat Icon

I still do this...eventually, they catch onto the word and it is so exciting when they repeat it back.Chat Icon

Re: starting to point things out

this is a great stage

Use it to your advantage to help build his vocabulary

e.g. if he is pointing to a balloon

"Oh Luce...you like that RED Balloon--I wonder where it came from etc"---in a BIG exaggerated voiceChat Icon
