Stair Railings

We are re-staining our stair railings but leaving the spindles white. Are the main posts also supposed to be white, or the same stain as the top of the railing?

It's *supposed* to be whatever you like.... Chat Icon Chat Icon

I love the look of natural wood, so if it was me, if I wasn't going to keep it all natural (like mine currently are), I would just paint the spindles white, and leave the railing and newel posts natural.

I actually prefer the opposite, but there's really no right or wrong, it's all preference. We are in the process of getting a new banister, we chose white newel posts with white balusters and a dark stained oak rail. Will post pics after it's done, but it will be a few weeks.
