staining/weatherproofing a deck
Has anyone ever stained/weatherproofed a deck?
Is it just like painting or do you have to do something to do the deck before staining it?
Can you recommend a good brand?
I should add that this is not a new deck. it's the existing deck on the house that we just purchased.

Re: staining/weatherproofing a deck
we had a wood stoop in front of the house
we scrubbed it with some bleach (it had mold on it)
DH sanded the whole thing down with a orbital sander
then we stained it with Behrs wood stain
eta my dad stained his deck with Cabot I think it was called so I am sure that is a good brand too
here is pics

First power wash the deck and let that dry.
Then buy Thompsons Sealant. You can get it at home depot.
You can get clear or colors.
I have the clear in my garage and in a few weeks I will be power washing and sealing our deck.
