Stage 2

My friend has a baby who is 5 months old and she had a question. At what age do you switch to the stage 2 Dr. Brown's nipple?

I would like to know too...Chat Icon

yup, I really think its a trial process.

If he is struggling with the ones that come with it try a 2... if he is gulping and choking with a 2 give it a week or so and try again.

Right now Jack is actually using the Y cut cereal ones since I'm adding rice cereal to his bottles since 11 weeks.

Yeah, my doc told me he wants to hold off till 4 months but since he is eating so much formula he would let me try at 3.. but Dh will back shortly after 4 months so I'm going to try to hold off and wait so he can experience all the crazy faces and messes.

Re: Stage 2

I didn't think to change to the stage 2 nipples until he started on cereal.

Stefanie, does giving Jared cereal help decrease the amount of formula he drinks? Also what made you decide to give it to him earlier than most? I was thinking of trying it in his night time bottle to see if he would skip the 3or 4 am feeding. I'm hesistant bc I don't want him to gain too much weight too fast. He was already 14lbs 7ozs at 7 weeks.

Re: Stage 2

Steph...

I just wanted to try cereal on him because he seemed to never be satisfied...sometimes becoming hungry 2 hours after feedings...so I tried it. He drinks a little less formula when I feed him the cereal...and I only give him a tablespoon of cereal...so instead of giving him 6 oz, I give him 4. I try to give him the cereal at night before he goes to bed. I also use the spoon so he can start getting used to it.

I just brought him to the doctor on Thursday and when they compared weight, last time he was 11.8 pounds and this time he was 15 pounds. The doctor said that is a good healthy weight, so I guess the 4 pound gain wasn't that bad. Chat Icon

Re: Stage 2

I switched at 3 months. I found that it was taking about 40 minutes for Logan to finish his bottle with the Stage 1 nipple. At stage 2 its a lot easier.
