Went for our honeymoon. Awesome! Can't comment on the Mariott but stayed at a place called Pavillions and Pools. Its a suite with your own pool. Loved it. Walked to an amazing snorkeling beachChat Icon

That is the one on the rocks that you sail by when you leave port. I would look elsewhere. While it looks nice there is no real beach there I forget if there was no beach or you have to walk down a long path to a rocky one. St thomas is great but I would want to be on the beach. There are many other ones on the beach. Beautiful island. Try to catch a ferry over to st john and trunk bay.

Agree- we stayed at the Marriott years ago - I think it was called Fisherman's Wharf. It was very nice but from what I remember the Ritz was REALLY nice.

St Thomas - anyone been?

I have only stayed in St Thomas for a night or two before going on sailboat charters. I have to say I would much rather stay on St John. I think its just a nicer island. The hotels I think are more expensive but I'm not 100% sure. The town is more low key and no cruise ships so it doesnt get crazy. You can always take a ferry over o other islands.

If you are lookign for more hustle and bustle then St Thomas is that type of island

We loved St. Johns, took the ferry over from St. Thomas.

They have a snorkeling trail at Trunk Bay, so you can read about the fish, coral, etc as you go along.

If you are going to go there, note that it's really not a beach that you can lounge on, at least by the snorkel trail. It's very short, the waves come up over the whole beach. Everyone puts their items up in trees so they dont get washed away. It is a national park though, so a little bit back from the water there are trees, tables, etc that you can relax at while you are taking a break from the snorkel trail.

Re: St Thomas - anyone been?

Love & can't wait to return!

We did stay at the Marriott, however we learned the 1st day to rent a jeep & save a TON. Plus we explored, went to so many different beaches, took the ferry to ST.Johns, found amazing restaurants (marriot did have our favorite though) & a favorite breakfast spot too! With the jeep we even bought a cooler & water/coronas/snacks.

We did a sail with Morningstar, WORTH IT!
Did a tour to the Bathes.....WORTH IT for the experience.

Next time we plan to do a property rental.

Yes, if you stay at the fisherman portion, you are on the beach, there is a smaller pool/hot tub too. But the infinity pool (which when we were there last year they just opened the new swim up bar), is amazing to lounge at.

Havana Blue is on the property & their sister restaurant is Coco Blue. We had great experiences at both. (ate at Havana 2xs it was so good!)
Barefoot Buddha, was a favorite for good coffee & breakfast (but they have other food too).

Re: St Thomas - anyone been?

Thank you everyone ! The Ritz is perfect - but this is suppose to be a little mid winter getaway - not THE vacation for this year wish the pricing was a bit less !!! - I am so torn... I've been looking at Atlantis, South Beach (Loews) (BTDT), DR, Jamaica, and it has been like a round trip - I've never been to DR or Jamaica or Atlatnis, or St Thomas/John.... so confused ! LOL.

I don't get why the pool at Fisherman's is not heated???

Re: St Thomas - anyone been?

I always assumed ST Thomas/ST John were more expensive compared to other destinations (because it is US)...did you price other options?

We went because of my DH work conference & really loved it. but I'm not sure if you are concerned about a getaway cost, it's the best option....especially the Ritz, I have to imagine food alone will get costly. At the Marriott a small breakfast was like $25 (& I wasnt close to being full).

I went in Oct, I definitely didn't need a heated pool, so not sure why it is or isnt.
