St Pete Beach, FL
DH and I like a vacation spot where we can check into the hotel and basically walk to all the attractions/restaurants in the area. We just got back from Ocean City, MD where we walked the boardwalk or took the city bus up and down the main strip to the various mini golf courses and places to eat. We basically don't want to pay for air fare and then car rental on top of it, might as well go to an all inclusive hotel in the Caribbean but we would like to stay in the country since we don't have our passports (and do not travel much at all). Is St Pete Beach or the FL Keys like this? Thanks!

I agree. How would you get to there from the airport? I don't think hotels there provide shuttles to the airport. You could do a lot of walking there, but I think you would need a car and rental cars are not super expensive in Florida.

We went to st. Pete's early July and stayed at the Tradewinds. We rented a car because we wanted to see the area and eat outside the resort. Tampa airport is about 35-40 minutes away so a cab would be expensive. There's only a few walk to restaurants. I would recommend a car unless you plan on staying in the resort entire time. We had a great time and would love to go back!

fort Lauderdale is really fun and you don't need a car.
You can walk to all the restaurants and stores and the beach is literally across the street if you stay on the strip.

are you looking for a beach location only? DH and I went to chicago a few years ago, for a few days and we didn't need a car, we just took the train from the airport to where the hotel was. We stayed in the magnificent mile area. It was a lot of fun!

Another option is Clearwater Beach. Everything is in walking distance. You can take the Jolley Trolley if your hotel is further down. The Sandpearl has some great deals right now for late Summer/Fall. We went to Clearwater Beach last year and it's a really nice place. Not the dirty party atmosphere that I had heard about many years ago. Crystal clear water, and sand that is soft like flour. Many good restaurants, etc. But, you would have to take a car service to your hotel, because you would have to fly into Tampa, or St. Pete.
