St. Louis.....
Joe and I are going to St. Louis in June or July to visit his sister and her family. Where should we stay? What "section" of town? What should we do/see/attend/eat at? TIA!!

Re: St. Louis.....
It depends on where your SIL lives, but I would stay in either Central West End, downtown, or Clayton. All are walkable neighborhoods with lots of shops and restaurants and are on the MetroLink line.
Do: Visit Forest Park, the Arch, and the City Museum. Go to a Cardinals game. Stroll around the Loop. Tour the Budweiser brewery.
In Forest Park all the museums and the Zoo are free.
The Missouri Botanical Garden is fabulous, and they have free jazz concerts during the summer.
Eat: Ted Drewes is a must! For a nice dinner, Sidney Street Cafe, 1111 Mississippi, Niche, or Trattoria Marcella.
Have fun!

Re: St. Louis.....
I lived in St. Louis for 4 years!!!
You can stay downtown or by the airport. Depends on what you'll be doing and how much you want to spend. The airport has the "metrolink" which will take you downtown if you don't have access to a car. It's very useful and only crowded on game days (Cardinals).
It's going to be really hot in June and super hot in July so keep that in mind. There is a ton to do though. What are you interested in??? A must see of course is the Arch. They have a lot of fairs on the arch grounds in the summer so you might want to check the tourism website for STL to see what's going on.
The landing is an area by the river and it has a lot of bars and restaurants. Union Station is a fun area with shopping and more bars and restaurants.
Another place I would take all my visitors is the Anheiser Busch Brewery. My friends and family are beer drinkers so this was a must for us.
If you like gambling, there are several casinos. I would stay away from the ones downtown and stick with either Harrahs or the Ameristar. There is a great steakhouse inside the Ameristar and some fun bars.
My favorite place to go is Old St. Charles. It's a little area by the Missouri river where Louis and Clark started their adventure across the US. If you like country stores, there are a ton of them. Lots of shopping and some restaurants.
If you want to take a day trip, there are several wineries.
The zoo is fun to go too and it's free. You just pay for parking. There is also the science center which is fun if you are into that stuff.
Of course, you can check out a Cardinals game if they are in town.
As for food - it's very different than NY. Especially their Italian restaurants. There is an area called The Hill that has some really good Italian food but honestly, nothing beats NY. The steaks are really good and as I mentioned above, the steakhouse in the Ameristar is great.
Let me know if there is anything else you want to know.

Thank You All I know is her address is in St. Louis We live in MI and we'll be driving. I'm looking for a safe area that is close or closer to pubs/low key bars and some good bar food and 1 nice place to eat. We'll only be in town for roughly 4 days.

Ok then, I would stay downtown. You'll be able to get to all that you mentioned by walking or driving a short distance. Just a warning - the downtown really shuts down at night. It's nothing like other big cities. But, you can drive or take a cab to the Landing, Union Station or Soulard and get what you're looking for as far as good food and low key bars. Some hotels to look into are the Marriot and the Drury Inn. We stayed at the Drury Inn for New Years one year and it was really nice. I think there are two of them though. We stayed at the one closer to the arch
