SPR: traveling without DH...kinda long
My twin sister is having my nephew's christening this summer. They live in MA.
It was going to be a weekend in June when DH happened to be off. DH works a lot of weekends. It is nearly impossible for him to get off weekends during the summer.
NOW the christening is going to be one of two weekends in July - both of which DH happens to be working.
DH says we will have to RSVP no. He doesn't feel comfortable with me and DS (who is 26 months) traveling without him. He says, what if somethign happens and he's not there.
My parents live here on LI and we would most likely end up traveling with them, so I would not be traveling alone with DS. We stay in a hotel - I'm sure someone in my famly wouldn't mind staying with DS and I if I asked, like my mom or one of my other sisters.
I think it's terrible taht just becuse DH is working and can't get off that I should miss my nephew's christening. DH says we need to do things as a family. UGH. Am I missing something...am I being unreasonable to want to go??
Please help, WWYD?

Re: SPR: traveling without DH...kinda long
You're going to go with your parents? So you're not travelling alone.
I would 100% go with DC if DH couldn't go... it's only a couple of hours drive away and you'll be with family. My DH would encourage me to go with DD if he couldn't, I'm sure!
I've travelled by plane alone with DD (DH met us later) and it was fine.

Re: SPR: traveling without DH...kinda long
Have you talked to him about having your parents driving with you and staying with you so that you aren't alone with your DS?
I would go, but I'm really independent and my DH wouldn't have a problem with me traveling with the kids.

I disagree with your DH.
Since he works some weekends, that means you and your DC will miss a lot of events.
I think your DH needs to get comfortable with you doing things without him since it is life. It would be nice to have him there, but it is just no always going to be possible.
This trip-with you traveling with your family-sounds like a good intro.

I would reason with DH that I can handle whatever happens. If I can't, I'll call him.
It's unreasonable to expect you to be permanently joined to the hip to DH because you want to take your child somewhere.
If it were out of the country & you weren't getting along, I could see his concern.

You should totally go. I can understand not wanting to travel alone with a toddler but if you are going to have family members with you in the car, it is fine. MA isn't THAT far away.

Even if you were traveling alone, I would see no issue with you going. If something happens you will handle it. I can't imagine what could happen that mom wouldn't be able to handle, especially with family to call on both sides of the trip. If your parents are traveling with you then your husband is totally crazy to say you can't go.
(Note: I traveled multiple times between Boston and Long Island with my girls all by myself.)

Re: SPR: traveling without DH...kinda long
Sorry but I agree with your gut... I'd go.
I took AJ from NY to TX and she was only 9mo old, without the hubby. I called him often and let him know where were etc. I did travel with a brother of mine (teenager) just in case I needed a second set of hands, but you have that with your parents.
So.. sorry but I would go without DH

Re: SPR: traveling without DH...kinda long
Thanks for your replies ladies.
I was wondering if it was just me - or is DH just being a little silly!?
Part of the problem is he doesn't like or probably trust my parents. And I am preggo - but as you ladies said, what would happen that I can't handle??
UGH! I'll have to keep working on him. Thanks for your input!

That's ridiculous! They're your parents - he can't expect you not to trust them even if he doesn't. I would totally go. But then again, I'm living in London at the moment and I've already flown back to New York with DS three times since he was born - twice without DH. You can TOTALLY handle it! Don't let him underestimate you!
